Badge Edition. Display care - alex-43/SoftRF GitHub Wiki

Service life

The Good Display GDEH0154D67 e-Paper panel manufacturer typically estimates the product lifetime as follows:

  • minimum of 5 years or
  • the times of refresh is 1,000,000.

SoftRF firmware for Badge Edition makes one screen refresh every 2 seconds.

Estimated refresh limit is about (1000000 / 3600) * 2 = 554 hours = 23 days.

Thus, it is generally not recommended to use the Badge Edition for any other long term activity except flying.

Residual screen shade

Prolonged use (more than 20-30 minutes) of the device may cause for a residual picture of most used 'Screen Page' to remain visible after power off.

To get rid of the shade, we recommend to wait 1-2 hours after power off, then apply full power cycle for the Badge Edition. This typically helps.

Long term storage

This is a recommendation from Good Display manufacturer:

SoftRF firmware has implemented a 'screen saver' method to extend service life of the GDEH0154D67 display. 1

1 - this feature is a part of Stable Release 1.0 firmware update.

While doing regular power off procedure, please, keep Touch Sensor button activated.
The Badge will proceed into the power off screen saver mode, as follows:

Then the screen will become clear from any black pixels:

Your Badge Edition e-Paper screen is now safe for the long term storage purpose.
