FIABv4 Beta - alanbjohnston/CubeSatSim GitHub Wiki

This page is about the beta Fox-in-a-Box v4 Beta image which is under development.

You can find the latest Raspberry Pi disk image here:

http://cubesatsim.org/download/

For example, fox-in-box-v4-v5beta.iso.zip is the fifth version.

This is image can be written to a 16GB SD card or larger using, for example, BalanaEtcher https://etcher.balena.io

The username is pi and the password is raspberry

The image is based on Pi OS 64 bit Bookworm. It has been tested on a Pi 5 and a Pi 4. It supports the RTL-SDR USB dongle v3.

It has the following software:

  • OpenWebRX - a Web SDR that loads automatically on boot. Starts in 70cm band for CubeSatSim but you can change bands. Has a built in APRS packet decoder and a new SSTV decoder. You can configure it using a web interface. Click on the Settings icon on the right then enter the username admin password raspberry
  • QSSTV - for decoding SSTV images. Runs automatically after selecting the frequency.
  • Direwolf - for decoding APRS packets. Runs automatically after selecting the frequency.
  • SDR++ - a general purpose SDR. Just click the Play triangle icon in the top left to start.
  • FoxTelem - doesn't yet work with the RTL-SDR

Known issues:

  • OpenWebRX on the Raspberry Pi Firefox browser works, but there are random lines that show up in the waterfall. To decode SSTV, select DIG (digital mode) then SSTV from the pulldown. This will open the SSTV window on the left. The modulation will be set to USB so you need to click on FM to set it back. If it is running when the image starts, it should automatically detect the mode and decode in the window.
  • QSSTV - no known issues
  • Direwolf - no known issues
  • SDR++ - sometimes to get the audio to the speakers, you have to right click on the Speaker icon at the top right of the screen, select a different device, such as Loopback, then select HDMI again. Make sure the volume is up in both SDR++ and on the Pi.
