Head waiter (vahetuse vanem) shall be able to record cash registers initial and end states.
1. Can you explain briefly what kind of tasks you do?
I’m usually the first one in and the last one out during the shift so I have the keys to restaurant. I check if everything is at its place and that nothing is missing. I also check the register and count the cash before we open. During the shift I make sure everything is going ok and solve any problems that arise. After we close I again count the cash in the register and lock the place.
2. Do you also need to take out/put in additional cash? Take it to a bank?
No, that’s really the manager’s job. I just let him know if we’re running low on cash.
3. Should head-waiter be able to insert information/comment about certain waiter?
Yes, and I’d also like to have possibility to review some summary info about them.
4. Do you need to be able to cancel bill after it’s been issued?
There should be possibility to change it, surely.
5. Do you need a possibility to see the summary of ordered dishes of the day?
Yes, it would be nice. Would be good to know what products were the most popular.
6. Do you need to see live information about currently active orders?
Yes, it would be nice to see and also an alert if any order has been waiting for over 15 minutes.
7. Do you also perform regular waiter tasks? Do you need the same functionality as a waiter?
Sometimes, but I mostly see to it that everything is going smoothly. But of course I need to be able to take and track orders.
8. How should tips from customers be handled? Should they be already included in the bill? How should it look like upon electronic payments?
Tips shouldn’t be included in the bill. When paying with cash, customers leave the amount they want. They should also have the ability to appoint tip when paying electronically.
9. What happens with the cash/electronic payment that classified as tip? When and to who should it be paid out?
All the money should come to the register after bill has been paid. System should track which waiter and how much has received tips and after shift it should be transferred to their bank accounts.
10. Should there be any tax withhold?
Yes, income tax.
11. Do you need to have possibility to give additional discounts to some customers?
Yes, I sometimes have to solve problems that have taken place and the easiest way is often discount/free meal or drink.
12. When the waiters will all have their own touchscreen devices, would you need the possibility to send them some messages? Individually or collectively?
Not really, our restaurant isn’t so big. When I need somebody I can go and talk to him.
13. Do you need to see any information from the kitchen in addition to regular order tracking?
Actually it would be good if they could notify us (waiters also) when some products (that are in the menu) are running low.
14. How many order do you usually have at the same time? How many it could be at maximum?
Hard to say, I’d say anything between 5-25. I think maximum we have had was 50.
15. How long do you think you could manage the restaurant if the new POS system crashed? How quickly it should be up again?
Well, I think 5-10 minutes would be ok. We could write things down on paper and enter it afterwards into system.
16. Do you think you need to have different language user interfaces in your restaurant? For customers? For employees?
Actually we have a lot of foreigners. Specially Russians and Finns and it would be great if menu could be also in those languages. Must be in Estonian and English. Regarding waiters - everybody speaks Estonian, so I think they don’t need other languages.
17. Do all employees speak English?
No, some waiters don’t.
18. Do you use table reservation system?
Haven’t used it so far but I think it would be a good idea.
19. Which kind of methods would you like to use (telephone, email, website..)?
I think telephone is the most natural, but it would be great if there was a form on our website also.
20. Should it be possible to cancel the reservation also on the website?
Yes.
21. How long in advance can the customer make the reservation?
I think up to 5 days would be good. And not later than previous night.
22. Does he have use his loyalty card for that or can anybody make a reservation?
I think anybody should be able to do it. They just need to leave their name and telephone info.
23. Must it be possible to reserve specific tables or simple a table of certain size?
Only the size of the party is important.
24. Do you need to confirm the reservation made on the website or should they be automatically entered to the system?
I think it’s ok if they go automatically. We should have alert if there’s reservation spots for more than 10 customers.
