Introduction

Apotris features 12 game modes, most of which have sub-modes and options to change up the game-play. Each combination of mode, sub-mode and option has its own leaderboard, excluding the "Level" options. Different starting level selections don't change the leaderboard.

Marathon

Achieve the highest score before reaching the goal while the game gets faster and faster.

There are 4 Goal options for the mode:

  • 150 lines (default)
  • 200 lines
  • 300 lines
  • Endless

As the name suggests, choosing Endless means that the game only ends by top-out. The level keeps increasing with no limit.

Starting at level 1, the level increases after clearing 10 lines .Technically, the current level is the number of lines cleared divided by 10, plus one. If you choose to start at a level higher than 1, the first level up happens when you clear the number of lines normally required for the next level. For example: if you start at level 10, you'll reach level 11 at 100 lines cleared. The following level ups happen as normal.

The following table has the values for the gravity encountered at each level. The unit is blocks moved per frame, meaning a value of 1.0 results in the piece falling 1 block each frame.

Level Gravity
1 0.01667
2 0.021017
3 0.026977
4 0.035256

Zone

Marathon mode also features the Zone sub-mode. In this sub-mode you gain the ability to enter Zone by expending meter. During Zone, completed lines don't get immediately cleared and they instead get moved to the bottom of the stack. Zone ends when the meter runs out with a full meter lasting 20 seconds, after which all completed lines get cleared at once potentially yielding clears larger than quads. You gain zone meter by clearing lines, 32 being needed to fill the meter to full. You can activate Zone if you have filled the meter to at least 1/4 full.

During zone line clears award 2x the score. If zone was activated when the zone meter was full, this bonus goes up to 3x.

Sprint

Clear lines as fast as possible to reach the goal.

There are 4 Goal options for the mode:

  • 20 lines
  • 40 lines (default)
  • 100 lines

Attack

In the attack sub-mode instead of clearing lines, you have to "send" lines. Sending lines is usually a multiplayer mechanic where you send lines to your opponent to make them lose. Lines sent are counted differently than lines cleared. In practice this means that high-level techniques like back to backs, t-spins, perfect clears, combos etc. are incentivized.

Dig

Clear garbage lines as fast as possible.

The options for the number of garbage lines that need to be cleared are:

  • 10 lines (default)
  • 20 lines
  • 100 lines

Garbage lines are rows of blocks where only 1 block is missing for the line to be cleared. These are generated so that 2 missing blocks are never above or below each other, making them harder to clear.

The maximum number of garbage lines present on the board at once are 9. If the remaining garbage lines to be cleared is more than 9, new lines are generated. This happens after a piece is placed which doesn't result in a clear.

Efficiency

In this sub-mode, the goal is to clear garbage lines using the fewest pieces.

Ultra

Get the highest score possible in the designated time.

The time limit options are:

  • 3 minutes (default)
  • 5 minutes
  • 10 minutes

The level remains constant so the speed doesn't increase as well.

Blitz

Get the highest score possible in 2 minutes while the speed gets faster.

This mode doesn't have any goal options and is made as close to Tetr.io's Blitz mode as possible. While quite similar to the Ultra mode, the increasing level and speed don't allow for the same strategies which changes the gameplay up quite a bit.

Combo

Achieve the longest combo possible while playing in a 4-wide well. The game ends when you break a combo.

Survival

Survive as long as you can while garbage line steadily rise from the bottom.

There are 3 different difficulty options for this mode:

  • Easy
  • Medium
  • Hard

The difficulty affects how often new garbage lines are generated.

Option Rate
Easy every 3 seconds
Medium every 2 seconds
Hard every 1 second

Classic

Achieve the highest score before reaching the goal while the game gets faster and faster, using classic mechanics.

Master

Achieve the highest grade.

2P Battles

Battle a friend using a link cable. This requires both players to have game.

Training

Improve your skills using various options to aid you.
