To run the door locking electronics and all windows operations (open/close), I'll be using EspressIF Systems ESP32 C3 microcontroller a single core Xtensa LX7 Core Processor running at 160MHz with 400Kb RAM. This MCU has wireless radio capabilities that are disabled on the hardware electronics itself for safety concerns.

Safety against theft
In regards to safety against theft the electronics will include a cryptographic IC that will be used to match the car owner's VIN number and with all other open hardware electronic components installed on a vehicle. In practical terms this means, in the event of theft, to make a specific open hardware work on another vehicle, it will require the replacement of the main microcontroller processing unit without the need of specialized tools and equipment. More information about safety and sensor data validation on this sci. research paper titled "Validation of Experimental Data Origins: A Swarm of DAQ devices able to Deliver Unique Experimental Data using Blockchainโlike Fingerprint ID to a Data Repository".
Another key open hardware characteristic is how the door-looking system is connected to all other systems in a vehicle. To mitigate theft by key fob cloning the door locking system runs on a separate power line, with its own rechargeable battery, and is independent from all other systems. In everyday usage, nothing changes when a driver wants to open their vehicle, using a simple key fob or a more sophisticated mobile app on their smartphone. What changes is the maximum wireless range a car key can have to turn the engine on, that is reduce to a maximum of 10cm of wireless range, well inside the interior of a vehicle and physical dimensions.
OEM Connectors
The factory original connector is from JAE Electronics reference IL-AG5-30P-D3L2. Sold on Digikey here.

Open Hardware Electronics
The KiCad footprint for this open hardware electronics can be found here. This footprint was carefully measured and It has the exact measurements and dimensions as the ones found on models from 2000 and 2004. If you like it and use it on your own hardware designs please support this project, click here to learn how. Thank you ๐.
