The hardware electronic being designed and prototyped is for a direct replacement of the carbon-based sensor inside the "Accelerator Pedal Control" with a laser position sensor the VL8160X from ST Microelectronics. The factory's original sensor is infamous for wearing overtime resulting in poor functioning of the overall electronics of a P2 Volvo car causing frequent error messages. This solution being prototyped will solve this annoying problem definitely.
In 2005 this problem was definitely solved by Volvo with the part number 30683514. You can replace the 2001-2004 accelerator pedal with one from a 2005 onwards model.
