General Questions

  1. Where is the game? I downloaded aPS3e, but I can't find the games!

aPS3e is only an emulator, it does not come with any games. You must provide your own legally obtained game files.

  1. What formats does aPS3e support?

Currently, you can back up your PS3 game discs to PKG/ISO format, which is supported by aPS3e. (aPS3e also supports folder format, but this is not recommended as you will need to manually move the game directory to the config/games directory.) Please note that you can only back up PS3 games that you have purchased yourself. Any other actions are in violation of copyright law.

3.Where can I get PS3 games in PKG/ISO or folder format.

You must legally own the PS3 game in order to make a digital copy of this game. aPS3e can only run legal copies of the game. So if you find a game at NoPayStation that you do not own, please do not download it.

  1. Where can I get PS3 firmware?

You have to own your own PS3 console to dump it yourself, if you need technical support you can search for "ps3 firmware" for help.

  1. Where can I get third party drivers?

Please search "turnip vulkan driver" in google.

  1. What is the difference between aPS3e and aPS3e Premium?

There is currently no difference between the two except for the icon. Maybe there will be changes in the future.

  1. Is there a difference between the apk version on github and the Google version?

There is no difference between the APK version and the aPS3e on the Play Store, and there won't be any difference in the future. The APK version is provided only to serve users who cannot use the Play Store.

  1. My antivirus engine reports that the aPS3e APK has a virus!

If the source of your APK is unknown, please be cautious. Please ensure that you obtain the aPS3e app from the Google Play Store or the official website https://aenu.cc/aps3e/. Any other domains (such as aps3e.org, aps3e.com, etc.) are not affiliated with us. Additionally, we have received reports that a very small number of antivirus programs may falsely flag aPS3e. Please ensure you obtain aPS3e from a reliable source! We reiterate that aPS3e is open-source and has passed Google Play Store's rigorous review process, making it a legitimate, safe, and free app.

  1. Does aPS3e have ads?

There is no version of aPS3e that contains ads. If the aPS3e you downloaded displays ads, please delete it, as it has been hacked. Apart from voluntary donations for aPS3e Premium, there are no paid options for the aPS3e project.

  1. I want an RPCS3 libretro core!

Well, aenu did try to port it to libretro for Android. However, the results were not ideal. Since the Libretro API requires single-frame execution, this is very difficult to implement in RPCS3, and the time cost of implementation may be extremely high, which is beyond our capabilities. So the plan is on hold for now. If you are willing to help, please contact us!

  1. I have an idea. How can I contact you?

However, please note that any meaningless or copyright-infringing questions will be ignored, and even meaningful questions that do not violate copyright laws may not receive a response. After all, we cannot afford to hire customer service staff; there is only one person handling everything.

  1. I can't join the Discord channel! Let me in!

The Discord channel for aPS3e is used to select beta testers and is no longer open to the public. If you really want to join, please answer the questions required before joining carefully, do not use a newly registered account, and wait patiently.

  1. How can I become an alpha tester?

We are no longer recruiting alpha testers.

  1. I can't install the firmware / aPS3e can't find my firmware! I must have downloaded it!

Rename the firmware you obtained to " PS3UPDAT.PUP" and use the main menu > Install Firmware > Point to PS3UPDAT.PUP.

2.How to install third party driver?

Main menu, Settings > Video Settings > (at the bottom of the menu) Vulkan > tick "Use Custom Driver" > "Custom Driver Library Path" to select the driver file.

  1. Why is my "Use custom driver" option not ticked?

Unfortunately, only some devices currently support the driver. Please wait for future updates or replace your device.

  1. PKG does not run after installation!

You may also need to install the RAP file (Main Menu:Install RAP/PKG file). It is also possible that the game is not yet supported, please be patient.

  1. How do I run the game in ISO format?

Place the ISO file in a directory. Open main menu>Set iso directory>Select the directory where the ISO file is located>Main menu:Refresh list>Run the game.The ISO game may need to be installed, or converted if it is an undecrypted ISO. Refer to 6.

6.As soon as I run my ISO file, it says Undecrypted Unable to Support.

If you have a legal copy, you can try to use a conversion tool to convert the ISO to folder format, please search for yourself.

7.Where do I put the folder format game?

Please use the built-in file manager to copy the file to the aPS3e:config/games directory. After refreshing the list on the main menu, the game icon will appear and you can run it.

8.How to use the game upgrade and DLC?

Currently, games in PKG and folder format support direct installation of PKG upgrades or DLC. games in ISO format do not support installation of DLC or upgrades at this time.

9.How to use cheats?

Currently aPS3e doesn't support cheats. We will add this feature as soon as possible.

10.How to use real-time save/load?

Currently, aPS3e only supports in-game save/load and does not support real-time save/load.

11.There are missing characters in the system UI display.

Please use custom font. Main Menu, Settings > Other Settings > (bottom of menu) Font File Selection > Custom > Point to the location of the font file.

  1. Does aPS3e support joysticks?

aPS3e supports external gamepad, if you find that the buttons are not automatically recognised by aPS3e, you can enter the "Main Menu: Key Mapping" to set it.

13.How to add custom settings for games?

Long press the game in the game selection interface, a pop-up menu will appear, edit the custom configuration.

  1. Why is my game icon greyed out and unable to run?

This is an unencrypted game. If it is in PKG format, please install the RAP file; if it is in ISO format, it needs to be converted (see 6); if it is in folder format, you need to import the key. We are unable to provide further support for these operations, so please search for information yourself.

  1. Can you add translations in XXX languages? I don't understand English/Chinese.

Currently, all translations are machine translations, and our foreign language skills are poor. If you can contribute your translations at https://github.com/aenu1/aps3e/tree/main/app/src/main/res, we will add them as soon as possible. Otherwise, please be patient and wait.

Error related

  1. I can't run aPS3e! It's not that I can't run the game, but I can't run the emulator itself.

This issue only occurs on some Snapdragon 6xx devices, so please wait for a solution as the developer does not have any devices on hand for testing.

  1. When I run the game, it gets stuck at SPU buffer completion and cannot continue.

This issue only occurs on armv9/armv9.2 architectures (except for Snapdragon 8E) and requires a change in the settings to Core settings> use LLVM CPU, just select cortex-x1 or cortex-a55.

  1. The game runs very slowly, how can I run it smoothly?

The current Android hardware is not good enough to run the big games on PS3 smoothly, if you want to improve the game performance, you can try to change different third-party drivers, or repeatedly fine-tune the settings of aPS3e. If these means have no effect, then you can only update your hardware or wait for future updates.

  1. aPS3e can't running *** game/crashes while running, please solve it!

Ok, please be patient and wait for a subsequent update to detect any improvements. If you have time, please submit your findings at https://github.com/aenu1/aps3e/issues. Note, please be sure to submit your hardware information, Android version, aPS3e version, 3rd party driver version, and the name or number of the game. Without the above information, we will not be able to look further into the bug you submitted and the issue will be closed.

  1. I would like to add *** features!

Please go to https://github.com/aenu1/aps3e/issues to submit your suggestion. We are limited in our ability to accommodate them right away, but there may be an opportunity.

  1. aPS3e in the Play Store shows incompatibility with my device, help me!

You can try to install the APK version from github, https://github.com/aenu1/aps3e/releases. attentation, Google will automatically determine whether your hardware meets the minimum requirements of aPS3e, and the probability is that your device will not be able to run aPS3e properly.

7.I saw many videos that aPS3e can run a certain game, but my phone can't? What is the best hardware to run aPS3e?

Currently there are a lot of GPU bugs on mobile, please use a custom driver or wait for a later solution.

  1. After update from Playstore, the games I used to be able to play no longer work properly!

After updating the app, some default settings may change. Please reset the settings to default and then adjust them again. If this does not work, you can temporarily uninstall the Play Store version, obtain an older version of the APK from GitHub, and wait for future updates.
