No Open Document State
When there are no open documents, the Properties and Layers/Libraries columns are not shown and instead replaced by a Recent Files and Templates column.
Recent Files
This panel will show up to the last 10 documents that have been opened.
Templates
This is a list of artboard templates. This list is echo'd in two other places: File > New From Template and Layer > New Artboard. When clicked, a new document will be opened/created for the associated template. Current Template List:
