Swatches & Plates Fields
Swatches and Plates are read-only fields that display color information embedded in InDesign and Illustrator documents.
Note: Swatches and Plates fields are read-only and are not available in Lightroom Classic. They are most useful in Adobe Bridge when working with InDesign or Illustrator files.
Swatches
The Swatches field displays the color swatches used in the document. Each swatch is shown as a color chip with its name and color model (e.g., CMYK, RGB, Pantone spot color).
You can select one or more swatches and export them as an Adobe Swatch Exchange (.ase) file, which can be imported into other Adobe applications.
Plates (Ink Separations)
The Plates field displays the ink separations (plates) used in the document. In print production, each plate corresponds to a separation — typically Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black for standard CMYK output, with additional plates for spot colors.
This information is useful for pre-press review and for verifying that a document uses the expected set of inks before sending to a printer or service bureau.
Configuring Swatches and Plates Fields
These fields do not read from XMP properties directly — they read from the document's embedded color data. Because of this, you only need to provide a Display Name when configuring either field.
- Display Name — The label that appears above the field in the View.
