History Fields
The History field displays the modification history of a file as recorded in its XMP metadata. It reads from the xmpMM:History property, which many Adobe applications write automatically when a file is saved.
This field is read-only — it shows what has been recorded in the file's history but does not allow users to add or remove history entries.
Note: History fields are read-only and are not available in Lightroom Classic.
What History Shows
Each history entry typically includes:
- Action — What was done (e.g., "saved", "converted")
- Date/Time — When the action occurred
- Software Agent — Which application performed the action (e.g., "Adobe Photoshop 26.0")
- Instance ID — A unique identifier for this version of the document
Not all applications write history entries, and the level of detail varies. Files that have never been saved in an Adobe application may have no history.
Configuring a History Field
The History field reads from the standard xmpMM namespace and does not require XMP configuration. Only the Display Name is required.
- Display Name — The label that appears above the history list in the View.
