Managing Conflicting Metadata Values

A common task for asset managers is to merge metadata across many assets. Custom Metadata Panel provides a way to merge metadata in specific fields, which is different from Metadata Templates provided by Bridge and Metadata Presets provided by Custom Metadata Panel. When you select two or more files, the Panel will alert you if there are multiple values for any given field in the selection. You can then choose one of the files' values for that field to replace all of values across the selection, or you can merge all of the values across the selection.
Note: Not all Field types can be merged using this method. Metadata Presets do support all metadata field types.

For instance, if you have three files with different values for pet breed, you can decide that one of the files' breed will replace the breed for the other two files. When you hover over each value in the MULTIPLE VALUE ACTIONS menu, you will see a preview of what will appear in that field for all selected assets once you select the value from the menu. For Tags, AEM Tags, Multi-Text and Multi-Dropdown, selecting Merge All will inherit the union of all values with no duplicates. For Text fields, selecting Merge All will inherit a semicolon separated list.

In the example below, the selection has many fields with multiple values. Fields which do not have the same value for all items now have a Multiple Selection Resolution button. Click the button to see the choices.

Multi-Selection Resolution

You can preview the choices by hovering over each item in the Multiple Value Actions dropdown.

Click an item in the list to set the value for the selection. The Field will turn green, and all of the items will inherit the value when you click Save Changes.
