Managing Conflicting Metadata Values

  1. A common task for asset managers is to merge metadata across many assets. The Custom Metadata Panel provides a way to merge metadata in specific fields. When you select two or more files, the Panel will alert you if there are multiple values for any given field in the selection. You can then choose one of the files' values for that field to replace all of values across the selection, or you can merge all of the values across the selection.

For instance, if you have three files with different values for pet breed, you can decide that one of the files' breed will replace the breed for the other two files. For Tags, AEM Tags, Multi-Text and Multi-Dropdown, all files will inherit the union of all values with no duplicates. For Text fields, all files will inherit a semicolon separated list.

  2. In the example below, the selection has many fields with multiple values. Each field with multiple values presents a warning flag. Those fields now have a Multiple Selection Resolution button. Click the button to see the choices.

  3. You can preview the choices by hovering over each item in teh Multiple Value Actions dropdown.

  4. Click an item in the list to set the value for the selection. The Field will turn green to indicate that you will make a change when you click Save Changes.
