Attributes

The dislocations in the program have the following attributes:

  • Burgers vector
  • Line vector
  • Position

They appear in the simulation as single points because the view of the simulation is simply the intersection of the simulation plane with the glide plane for the dislocations. In the simplest case, these dislocations are considered to be infinitely long and perpendicular to the plane of the simulation. This assumption implies that there is no line tension on the dislocations, which might be a source of deviation from reality of the simulation.

Forces

A dislocation experiences two kinds of forces:

  • Peach-Koehler force due to the externally applied stress
  • Interaction with the stress fields of neighbouring dislocations
