About ICAR and the Animal Data Exchange Working Group

About ICAR

ICAR, an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO), provides an open yet secure network to share with, learn from and interact with fellow members and related stakeholders in global animal production. By cooperating, sharing and enabling, ICAR strives to stimulate animal production around the globe that is more sustainable and efficient than the sum of the individual contributions. About the Working Group

The Animal Data Exchange (ADE) Working Group is a permanent working group that operates within the structure of ICAR. The members are appointed by ICAR and collaborate on a voluntary basis. The objectives of the working group are to:

  • Provide a forum for members of ICAR to collaborate, exchange information and learn from each other on all aspects of exchanging data between animal recording devices and recording databases.
  • Maintain, update, promote and extend universal guidelines and standards for the exchange of data between animal recording devices and recording databases worldwide.
  • Conduct and report the results of periodic international surveys on practices for exchanging data between recording devices and databases.
  • Develop, and promote systems and standards for: data exchange, data certification and data validation, which will form the basis of a service that sICAR may provide to members of ICAR on a user-pays basis.
  • Facilitate and co-ordinate international collaboration in all aspects of animal data exchange, with relevant groups including; ISO, UN-CEFACT, and Smart Dairy Farming.
