Example Scenes

//Descriptive 1: "Lightning flashes over the old castle on the hill. Within, a pale creature that was never human folds its fingers and observes the bubbling vat before it. Moments from now, it will see whether the biomass long-growing within will rise as its new child and heir, or fall to the garbage pit as yet another flawed iteration."

//Descriptive 2: "The storm rages around a wooden structure that was once a temple. Though machines and papers occupy the places idols once stood, the villagers fill the benches just as they did a generation past and listen with bated breath as the scholar at the front weaves a cautionary tale of a man who left behind science to meddle instead with powers he could not understand."

//Descriptive 3: "On a cloudless day, sky and ground tremble with the thunder of heavy guns and heavier feet. On the field before a city, the armies of two federated states engage in a mock battle. Infantry scrambles from position underfoot, but they are almost a distraction to the steel behemoths exchanging fire overhead."

//Descriptive 4: Mech knight and monster hunter on a co-op mission?

Influences on the Setting

Castlevania

Castlevania, particularly Netflix's adaptation. Gothic, medieval, kind of has a world of smelly humans with towns and cities and religion alongside a parallel society of magic and monsters.

Frankenstein, Twig, Misc. Biopunk

Pop culture adaptations of Frankenstein and biopunk in general. Using science to create monsters inside old castles, sometimes with crackly lightning. Science - or mad science - is the ultimate basis of power in this world.

Industrial Dark Ages

Dark ages mixed with early-1900s Europe. Imagine Europe in 1900, but then you blow up all the major cities and industrial centers, cut trade routes, and unleash monsters sporadically for a while. Society breaks down, there's 100 years of people trying to survive while petty warlords fight over territory, and finally people are getting their act together to figure out how to properly do manufacturing and electricity again.

Black Forest Tales

Dark forests full of isolated villages and old manors and castles. Everything you need for a Grimm's fairy tale or a Victorian Gothic horror story.

Mechs

Look up Jakub Różalski's "1920+" setting (featured in games like "Scythe" and "Iron Harvest") for my inspiration here: big, steam-powered, unpainted-steel goliaths stomping their way across fields or spider-crawling up mountainsides. Also inspired the industrial/rural/low-tech amalgamation I'm going for.

Movie Monsters

Halloween monsters. Zombies, werewolves, vampires, corpse brides, swamp creatures, the works.
