What is?

In conjunction with IEEE, ACM UMN hosts two LAN Parties each year, one the week before Thanksgiving in Fall Semester, and one at the end of CSE week in Spring semester.

Promotion

Work in conjunction with IEEE to develop advertising materials for the event; start about a month beforehand, and have posters up at least two weeks before the event. Advertise using screens in Keller and Coffman as well as posters and quarter-sheet flyers. Both the Fall and Spring LAN Parties can also be advertised via the ACM UMN newsletter as well as possibly the CS department mailing list. IEEE also has a z link at z.umn.edu/cselan; this should be updated at least two weeks, prefferably two months before the event.

Sponsorship

Sometimes companies will want to sponsor one of ACM UMN's events without actually donating any funding. This doesn't work for an event like MinneHack, but it is a possibility at the LAN parties. Monster Energy has had a booth with free drinks at this event in the past, and it went over fairly well. When organizing, don't put too much work into companies if they don't seem super enthusiastic and organized and they're not funding the event, though. Remember that the event will be great with or without them.

Food

Domino's pizza and canned soda are provided by ACM and IEEE at this event. Domino's can be SLOW, so plan accordingly.
