Overview

  • Delete the TrueNAS storage datastores, Storage Adapters, and the VM
  • Upgrade the Nested-ESXi hosts with Critical Patches using a Baseline
  • Upgrade the vCenter server to 6.0.7.47

Issues

I had no issues with the decommissioning of the TrueNAS datastores and upgrading the vCenter server to 6.0.7.47, though I am having severe issues with upgrading the Nested-ESXi hosts with the Critical Patches using the Baseline I created. I attached the Baseline to the cluster and went to stage the update, but nothing seemed to happen and I thought that was normal (I didn't have Recent Tasks up to show me it failed). I then went to Stage and Remediate the Baseline and nothing seemed to happen again, so this time I check recent tasks and it showed the remediation failed. I went to check the logs and it said that the Update Manager couldn't scan the ESXi hosts. I made sure DNS was working by accessing the hosts with their hostname and everything was fine, so it wasn't a network issue. I tried rebooting the vCenter server, but that didn't change anything. I did some research and nothing popped out that I didn't already check and tried.

UPDATE: Charles Large had the same issue but was able to fix it by changing the source of where the Update Manage was downloading the patches. By switching the source to the server IP address instead of the DNS, the cluster was able to remediate the baseline to the hosts.
