How to set up ACRE

###0)Follow every step. Seriously. Check it. We wrote all this shit for a good reason.

###1)Use BTSync to sync up. see https://github.com/a3g/a3g-information/wiki/Guide-to-a3g-mod-installation

###2)Install Teamspeak version 3.0.12. Up/downgrade if you have a different version.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_teamspeak_client_64/15906/ (X64)

http://www.filehippo.com/download_teamspeak_client_32/15905/ (X86)

Make sure ArmA and Teamspeak are installed on the same harddrive. You're not required to install Overwolf. Your call. 30.0.13 has binding issues and 3.0.10 is too outdated. Do NOT update.

###3) Grab the ACRE plugin .dll from the modpack. Should be in the readme folder if you're using BTSync. drag and drop/copypaste acre_win64.dll to your Teamspeak plugins folder. (Readme/acre_win64.dll -> Program Files/Teamspeak 3 Client/Plugins) (If you're using a x86 version (program files (x86) ) use the acre_win32.dll plugin.)

###4)Open Teamspeak and do the following:

#####4.1)If you haven't used Teamspeak before: Settings -> Setup Wizard (make sure to use push to talk instead of Voice detection) (Then step 4.2)

#####4.2)If you have: Settings -> Plugins -> Tick ACRE Plugin

#####4.3)Add our Teamspeak server to your Bookmarks: Bookmarks -> Add Bookmark -> Label it as you see fit -> Address: 46.165.239.231 -> Nickname: Your ingame name -> Server Password: 123456

#####4.4)(optional)Disable Teamspeak 3 announcer sounds

Bookmarks -> select the server (/a3g/) -> Bottom right [Sound Pack:] -> Sounds deactivated

4.5)Make sure Teamspeak runs as Administrator (on Win7 and such)

Right click on Teamspeak -> Properties -> Compatibility > Tick 'Run this program as administator' -> Apply

#####4.6)Options -> Hotkeys -> Bottom Right -> Direct input. This prevents binding issues. Note: If this option is not available to you you need to downgrade to version 3.0.12 or lower.

#####4.7) Settings -> Options -> Playback -> +10

Obviously up to the user to set the desired level, but +10 is a good start. Note that you may turn individual users up or down as well, by rightclicking them.

###5)Install the modpack. Steam -> Library -> Rclick on Arma 3 -> Properties -> Set launch options You're gonna want to put in the following: -mod=@FOLDERNAME

Your line could look something like (don't just copypaste):

-mod=@a3gmp -nosplash -cpuCount=8 -high -maxMem=6142

or

-mod=@a3gMP;@a3gMPO;@a3gCP;@A3MP;@a3gMaps;@agm;@RHSRFAF -nosplash

Just make sure there's a space before the first dash and a ; seperating each mod. And no ; at the end. **Do not add these mods through Expansions in game since it breaks them. **

###6)Check if you have these files:

Arma 3\userconfig\acre\acre_clientside_config.hpp

Arma 3\userconfig\acre\acre_keys.hpp

If you don't have those files you fucked something up; they're in the modpack so try 'n find them.

###7)Make sure ArmA3 runs as Administrator Right click on arma3.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility > Tick 'Run this program as administator' -> Apply

###8)Boot up ArmA 3, go to Control settings (Options -> Controls -> Multiplayer) and change or unbind following keys: *Voice Over Network: 2x Caps lock *Push To Talk: Caps lock

###9) In Control settings, go to Options -> Controls -> Multiplayer Bind a key to 'Talk on Direct Channel'. This is used to open the menu for the STACREadjust mod. You can adjust the range at which your voice can be heard with this. You do not speak while using it. To use it, hold down the key you binded, scroll to the desired volume, then release the key. Note that you cannot bind this key to a mouse button. Suggested: Numpad 5

###10)Basic controls: TS PTT key to talk in proximity chat (people around you will hear you) Capslock to talk on currently active radio You do NOT use any of the ingame binds to talk See below for more advanced controls

###11)Test the plugin. Join an ACRE-enabled Teamspeak server and join a server. You can join the /a3g/ TS and server. You can also home-host an ARMA server. Once ingame press Capslock If you hear a beep and see BROADCASTING in the bottom right corner it means ACRE is working. If not, you're probably going to have to start over. Check if you followed EVERY step.

###Optional Steps

#####12)Default broadcasting hotkey for ACRE is Caps lock, if you want to rebind it do the following: Open acre_keys.hpp with Notepad -> Edit -> Find -> 'class PTTradio' without the 's -> Change the 'key = 58' to something else (for the list of keys and numbers, scroll all the way down) -> Save

#####13)Watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qso322Ktizw for a video guide on ACRE usage.

Troubleshooting

  • Go through every step again.
  • Go through every step again. (Seriously. Fucking do it. We wrote this guide for a reason.)
  • Restart Teamspeak.
  • Try updating CBA.
  • Try downgrading TS. (Make sure you're on 0.12)
  • Try downgrading CBA.
  • Make sure you have Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 redists installed
  • Make sure your DirectX is up to date and you've installed a redist at some point
  • Make sure ArmA and Teamspeak are installed on the same harddrive.

Still having issues? Hop in the thread/chat and give us this:

A zip/rar/7z file with in it: -screenshot of your teamspeak, arma3 and steam compatibility tab of the properties of the .exe (rightclick) -screenshot of settings/plugins in Teamspeak -screenshot of settings/options/hotkeys in Teamspeak

  • a textfile with in it: -your arma3 launchparameters -your teamspeak version (click on help/about) -which exact files are in your teamspeak plugin folder -the path to your teamspeak

Further Reading

  1. ACRE controls (DEFAULT)
  • CTRL + SHIFT + S or A - Cycle between radios (switch between 343, 148, 119, 117F)
  • CTRL + SHIFT + X - Open selected radio interface
  • CTRL + SHIFT + LEFT ARROW - Set current radio into your left ear only
  • CTRL + SHIFT + RIGHT ARROW - Set current radio into your right ear only
  • CTRL + SHIFT + UP ARROW - Set current radio into both ears (default)
  • ALT + SHIFT + 1 - Preset: Talk first radio (see below)
  • ALT + SHIFT + 2 - Preset: Talk second radio (see below)
  • ALT + SHIFT + E - Self-interaction menu (Lower/Raise Headset, switch active radio)
  • ALT + SHIFT + Q - Use vehicle radio (only inside vehicles)

######MOUSE-SCROLL-MENU

  • "Lower Headset" - Lowers your 'headset', which results in reducing all radio volume by 50%. Does not affect input.
  • "Raise headset" - Shows up after lowering headset.
  • Raises your 'headset' again, resulting in full radio volume.

#####VEHICLE AND RADIOS

  • Vehicles have own radio. Use Alt + Shift + Q to take it in use.

Do note that, due to the shitty port we use, they rarely work well and tend to bug out. ACRE2 is in beta and we will switch sooner or later. Thankfully.

#####PRESETS Which radio you use per preset is defined as which radio you picked up first. If the mission maker adds a 148 to your gear before adding a 343, SHIFT + 1 will use the 148. You can change the presets around by dropping radios and picking them up in sequence.

2)Keep your radio messages clear and short.

3)While holding down the broadcast button you cannot hear the other end, that's why you should follow tip 2.

4)If you hear the radio click more than once when you start talking, that means someone else is talking. So shut up.

5)You can actually click on the radio controls to interact with them (switching channels, boosting signal, etc.)

6)If you have multiple radios, you can assign a separate key to 3 of them. Check out the keys.ppt.

7)Be patient.

8)ACRE takes its radio frequency simulation from real world cues. Radio signals are affected by distance, terrain, object clutter (buildings, trees, etc), and the statistics of the radio sets themselves. This means that you have to take these factors into account when you are planning and using your radio sets.

9)Everyone starts with a 343, that is perfectly fine for squad chatter. Squad leaders/RTOs should use their 148 or grab a 119 from a box if available. It has a much better range (up to about 40 Km). It should be used to talk with other squads and with pilots. The power modes are:

  • LO will pick up signals approximately 500-800 meters away
  • M will do 3-5km
  • HI will do approximately 8-10km depending on line of site. This will change with elevation
  • PA will go 35-40km.

Pilots can use the 117 from the helicopters. Just press ALT + SHIFT + Q when in a helicopter or armor. 148 is used by squadleaders to communicate with eachother. 119 is for RTOs (Radio Telephone Operators)

The 117, 119, 148 and 152 all use the same bandwidth, so they can talk to each other. The only difference basically is range. 343 is the only radio which can't communicate with radios other than itself.

  1. Command radio power setting cheat sheet 148 SQL radio max power is 5000. To do this, open up the radio and hit MODE, MODE, ▼, ENT

117 Vehicle radio max power is 20000. To do so, hit 8(VWX PGM), ENT, ◄, ◄, ENT, ►, ►, ►, ►, ►, (5x total) ENT.

119 max power is 'PA' To do this, open up the radio and click the left-most knob (PWR) twice.
