Data Literacy Project

  • T2DA means „Tracks to Digital Awarness“. It is a tool to increase Data Literacy. It is meant to help students to get aware of the tracks they are leaving while surfing through the internet. It‘s a track to data awarness.

  • T2DA is a tool that analyses your tracks on the basis of your browser’s history. By visualizing the results of the analysis it increases awarness and helps you to avoid leaving unnecessary tracks. At the same time, it is a educational tool that helps students to learn more about the basical principls of Data Science.

The Internet is consuming your time

  • Screen Time Monitor: how much time are you spending on which websites?

and which of these are grabbing your data?

Imagine…

… you had a tool

  • that would give you informations about the tracks you were leaving
  • that would increase your awareness about the problem of data literacy
  • that would be open source and usable offline, minimizing further risk to your privacy

Our answer: T2DA

T2DA means „Tracks to Data Awareness“.

Three goals

  • It is meant to help students to get aware of the tracks they are leaving while surfing through the internet.
  • By visualizing the results of the analysis it increases awareness and helps you to avoid leaving unnecessary tracks.
  • It is a tool to increase Data Literacy. It‘s a track to data awareness.
  • At the same time, it is a educational tool that helps students to learn more about the basic principles of Data Science. (Imagine analyzing your history in class and discussing the results & implications)

  • T2DA is also a tool that can be used to provide "anonymized" open source data for research.

How does T2DA work? - The basic idea

  • T2DA analyses your tracks on the basis of your browser’s history.
  • T2DA anonymizes the data.
  • T2DA matches this list with different lists of websites:
    • a black list
    • a white list
  • T2DA gives you a report of your activities and recommendations.
  • T2DA gives you the opportunity to share your data with researchers.

Problems

  • How to sufficiently anonymize the data?

  • How to encourage users to use T2DA?

    • How to keep the report simple?
    • How to avoid a moral or apocalyptic wording?
    • How to convince users to trust T2DA?
  • How to organize the deeper filtering?

  • How to do research with the data provided?
