How to solder the Firefly revision A 2.4GHz and Sub-GHz U.Fl connectors
As default the Firefly (revision A) has two on-board antennas: a 2.4GHz ceramic chip and a PCB printed one for 860-950MHz.
The Firefly has a secondary U.Fl connector for the sub-Ghz and it is always enabled, if connecting a pigtail over the U.Fl and an external antenna it will work, but probably the results would not be as better, as you will have two antennas radiating.
Enabling just the Sub-GHz U.Fl requires only to de-solder a resistor, which makes this an easy task.
On the other hand, adding an external 2.4Ghz antenna requires to mount an U.Fl connector and remove the 2.4GHz ceramic chip antenna.
Below are the required steps:
List of materials
- In case you want to mount an U.Fl connector
- The ceramic chip antenna reference in case you need one
- A soldering iron and solder tin. Depending on your skill with the iron solder a tweezer will come handy.
