Ice Lakes - ZenarchistCode/ZenModPack GitHub Wiki
This mod is a somewhat experimental mod.
I'm using it on my live server, but it's a bit of a niche mod and not for everyone's taste.
The reason it's included in my mod pack is because it has a tiny file size and minimal code, so why not.
Its mechanics are completely disabled by default, but for anyone running Winter maps I'll explain how to set it up if you're interested.
It's also now a standalone mod on the DayZ workshop, so if you came here from there, ignore any of the mod pack related information on this page.
If you're running this mod with my mod pack you will need to enable it in this master JSON config as described here.
What Is This?
This mod adds frozen ice planes over the top of lakes and ponds in-game.
It does not do this automatically - you must go into the DayZ Editor and set some of this up yourself. It takes time - it took me about 2 hours to do all of Livonia (I'll include my Winter Livonia config below).
Once an "ice plane" is spawned over a lake, players cannot fish, drink or collect water from that lake UNLESS they cut a hole in it using a pickaxe or iceaxe.

Setup
This mod requires a fair amount of setup by server admins if you're running this on a map other than Winter Livonia.
My server runs Winter Livonia, and as such I've completed the entire map's lakes and ponds config and that default config is included in this mod.
But to add a new map like Winter Chernarus or any modded maps like Namalsk etc, you or someone else will need to do the work as I unfortunately don't have time.

Basically, after adding this mod (or modpack) to your server and running your server for the first time after install, the mod will generate a default config file in %server_profiles/Zenarchist/ZenIceLakes.c
This file is a .c file, not a JSON file.
It's basically an alternative to the init.c method where most custom objects are spawned in server-side using the void main() function like the DayZ Editor teaches, but I moved mine here to make it easier to set up the mod and keep everything separate from init.c and with my other mod config files.
To spawn an ice plane over a lake you need to get the 4 coordinates from iZurvive or in-game, and a height coordinate for the ice sheet in-game, and paste them into this function inside %server_profiles/Zenarchist/ZenIceLakes.c like so:

Notice that you don't need to edit the copied coordinates at all if using iZurvive - the "/" will be automatically converted into the height coordinate provided at the end of the function (in this case 324.6)
Once you've copied your 4 corners for the lake you want to cover with ice, you need to go in-game, preferably using DayZ Editor with my ZenModPack.pbo or ZenIceSheets.pbo included in your client modlist, and place the object called Land_ZenIceSheet_4x4_Hole over the lake you're covering with ice.
You want the water to be visible through the ice hole in a realistic kind of way. Once you've placed that object where you want it, copy the Height coordinate (Y coord) into the function above - and you're done!
Here's an example of me working on a small frozen pond - all I did was place the hole correctly, copy the height coordinate and then copy out the 4 corners on izurvive into my function:
Some lakes are awkwardly shaped or have dam walls built into them - the grid system will usually not match the shape of these lakes.
Sometimes the ice sheets will spawn inside the dam walls and look weird, or spawn on low ground areas surrounding the lake and likewise look weird.
To fix this, you need to go in-game using admin tools and copy the positions of the offending lakes and add them to this array BEFORE spawning the lakes:

As mentioned, my full Livonia default config is included with the mod, but I'll also include it on this wiki page below so you can see how everything works if you're adding frozen lakes to a new map.
All of this is explained visually and step-by-step in the YouTube video guide mentioned above.
It's a bit of a process, but well worth it if you like adding hardcore survival elements like this to your Winter server.
