My favorite game design question is to ask "What matters?"

One interesting fact about Yserbius is that not a lot matters.

  • Class doesn't matter. All Guilds function identically in combat. Some may have a wider range of spells and skills available, but it is functionally possible to attain all spells and skills, and no spell or skill confers a different playstyle or ability.
  • Race doesn't matter. Except that it changes your initial stat spread.
  • Most combat spells don't matter, except at lower levels.
  • Gold doesn't matter.
  • Level doesn't matter except as a proxy for your hit points and stats.
  • Alignment doesn't matter.
