Briefly describe the activities you perform frequently on your computer that is important for having a fast and functional system. The description should be relevant to respond below.
My Current PC Use: The current computer that I use is a Dell XPS 15 7590 Laptop. It has 16GB or RAM, and 512GB of storage. For the most part, I do basic web browsing and text editing on my laptop. I also use video chat software such, as Zoom, Google Meets, and Inspace. I also use VMware to run different virtual machines, so the memory and storage are good for that. I like to play games sometimes too, so storage is good for that as well. The storage and RAM are the most useful to me. I also do like to play around with some 3D Modeling sometimes, so RAM comes in handy for that, and my laptop also has an NVIDIA GTX 1650, which also helps a lot. Overall, what I do on my Laptop doesn't require the best parts, but better parts to make what I do on my Laptop easier and allows me to get my work done more efficiently.
Components Table
Computer Component | Quantity | Price | Rationale for Component |
---|---|---|---|
Intel Core i7-9700F 3GHz 8-core Processor | 1 | $259.98 | While I do mostly basic tasks that are not too intensive, I still need a CPU that can handle at least some stressful Tasks. This CPU will be able to handle multiple processes without a noticeable speed difference. The 3GHz speed and the 8 cores will be able to handle the tasks that I normally would perform. I have a similar CPU in my laptop, and it can handle basic tasks, word processing, VMs, and even the program "Blender". The CPU I chose has the performance I need for a price that works with the budget. |
MSI Z390-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard | 1 | $119.99 | This motherboard supports all the components that I have chosen on this list. It also has room for expansion in some areas, which is good, in case I choose to upgrade my PC. This motherboard supports up to 128GB of DDR4 RAM, meaning I could double my chosen memory if I chose to do so. It also has 2 PCI-E x16 expansion slots and 4 PCI-E x1 expansion slots. This is good if I plan on adding any expansion cards. It does also have onboard 1000Mbit/s Ethernet, which will allow me to connect to the internet with a wired connection without having to buy an expansion card, which I do like, because I use the internet a lot. It also have two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.2 slots, which is a plus, so I can use USB interface devices, such as a keyboard and Mouse, or a USB hard drive, which I use all three of. |
G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory | 4 | $227.98 | I use virtual machines for both my internship and my major, so 64GB of RAM is good in order to support multitasking using VMs and other software. Multitasking is something I do very often, so the large amount or RAM will certainly be helpful. It will also increase the speed of processes, as I could run the RAM in dual channel mode. The RAM sticks also have heat spreaders, to maintain the life and performance of the RAM. With this RAM, I will be able to efficiently carry out my tasks. |
Samsung 860 Evo 1TB 2.5’’ Solid State Drive | 2 | $269.98 | I chose to have 2TB of SSD storage because I plan on having a PC that lasts me a decent amount of time, so having the storage to support the accumulation of files over time is necessary. VMs can also take up a decent amount of storage, so having 2TB will be useful. I could allocate more storage to the virtual hard drives on the VMs without having to worry about running out of storage on my PC. I also chose SSDs because they are quicker and last longer than HDDs. These SSDs have a cache of 1024MB, so I will be able to have quick access to commonly used processes and files. The speed on these SSDs is 6Gb/s, which is very fast, and that is good to have for being able to get things done quickly. |
Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit | 1 | $108.78 | I chose Windows 10 Home 64-Bit because windows is the operating system that I am most used to, and I like having a GUI for ease of use. Windows 10 is also supported by most programs, so I could download any program I would need. I chose the 64-bit version because some software is only supported by and can be used with a 64-bit operating system. |
Total Cost | $986.71 |
