Flamingos are smart, social, and long-lived shellfish specialists, who use unique toothed beaks to filter feed. These gentle, gregarous birds are a wonderful addition to any zoo or park!
Flamingos are common in slow fresh water biomes. They are always in flocks of 4-6 animals. Male and females are equally likely to spawn, and are not sexually dimorphic.
The flamingo is a medium-speed, neutral animal; they are aware of the player, but generally unbothered by their presence unless their young are attacked.
Flamingos can be tamed with piscivore kibble.
Flamingos have 7 hearts (14 points) of health, can deal 0.5 hearts (1 point) of damage, and drop 2 small meat and 3 feathers upon death.
Flamingos are a small animals with modest food needs. They eat a shellfish diet, consisting of aquatic arthropods and farmed shellfish.
Flamingos can use the sprinkler enrichment item.
Flamingos are a high fertility species, and can bred with mussels. As small-sized animals they have a gestation time of 40000 ticks, and lay 1 egg. Their chicks will take 3 1/3 minecraft days to reach adulthood.
(note: exhibit building sections contain a mix of gameplay information and building advice. Not all recommendations are necessary to keep animals happy, fed, and watered, but can help players build a realistic enclosure.)
Flamingos are a Zoo Staple - commonly found at a Zoo Entrance, or in an Africa Section, these guys are actually found in South & North America too!
Exhibits should be built to house a large group of flamingos, from anywhere between 10-100 can be found in US & UK zoos! In the wild, flamingos cohabitate with a multitude of aquatic, semi aquatic and terrestrial animals, including the Common Hippopotamus, Giant Otters, Tapirs - as well as various species of waterfowl! However, it is important to note that some species of bird, and especially the Common Hippopotamus, can cause a threat to the birds and their nests.
When building for flamingos, there is a very specific list of features essential for these stunning birds - A water source being arguably the most important, as flamingos rely on sources similar to these for their krill-based diet, of which gives them their pink colouration! Additionally, flamingos need access to adequate shelter, especially if kept in multi-species exhibits, as they both need a form of escape and protection from the aforementioned dangers presented by species such as Common Hippopotamus and to nest in peace.
It is also important to provide adequate enrichment for the flamingos, this can be achieved by using the Sprinkler enrichment item.
There are six species of flamingo represented in ZAWA Evolved: American flamingo, Andean flamingo, Chilean flamingo, James' flamingo, greater flamingo, and lesser flamingo.
