Background

The Young Person's Matched Administrative Dataset (YPMAD) brings together a range of education datasets, primarily to calculate measures of attainment in qualifications at level 3 and below at each age from 16 upwards.

This involves pooling data from KS4, KS5, School Census and ILR datasets.

Because of changes to qualifications and school and college accountability regimes over time, there is a lack of comparability over time which affects a number of measures.

Processing

We tend to restrict ourselves to studying highest qualification levels at different ages using the following variables which are (relatively) consistent over time:

• l2_overall
• l3_overall
