Background

The Employment data in LEO relate to paid employment. The data come from HMRC, historically based on P45 returns, but, starting in 2013/14, began to be based on Real Time Information (RTI).

The employment, self-employment and earnings views are probably the simplest to work with in LEO, consisting only of the dates of employment (the first two) and the annual earnings (the last one). Care should be taken when these are put together, however, since as when joining data from different sources together, unexpected out-lying results can be observed when these are linked together.

Processing

We do not perform any further processing of the source LEO data beyond adding our person identifier (fft_person_id) to aid linking to data from other sources.
