Welcome Emails - YourMembers/yourmembers GitHub Wiki

Welcome Email

Your Members Mail Manager has the ability to modify the message being sent by WordPress when the user first signs up. By default this message is not very friendly and includes just the username and password (auto generated) for the user. With the welcome message editor, additional custom fields are available as well as the ability to add extra information and text.

Using the Welcome Email

Note: While the welcome email is always sent using wp-mail, Mail Manager must be configured with your gateway of choice before you try to edit the welcome email.

To create or edit your welcome email, select Mail Manager from the Your Members admin and then welcome email.

Give the email a title and then complete the email in the body. This replaces the standard message so you may want to make sure that you include login details and if it's auto generated the password, or your users will not be able to login. The following special shortcodes can be used within the email and subject title:

  • [blogname] - name as defined in WordPress Settings
  • [blogurl] - URL as defined in WordPress Settings
  • [loginurl] - location of wp_login.php
  • [login] - Username for the member, normally set by themselves
  • [password] - The password of the user, normally auto generated
In addition there are two other useful shortcodes:

[ym_mm_custom_field field=""] - displays the content of a custom field. These are normally collected on register, if it has no content it will display nothing. For example:

Country: [ym_mm_custom_field field="country"]

will show the country the user was from.

[ym_mm_if_custom_field field=""] - Displays content depending on the result of a custom field, content inside the custom tags are only shown to those who have content in the custom field. For example

[ym_mm_if_custom_field field="magazine"]Your Complimentary copy of our magazine is on it's way to you[/ym_mm_if_custom_field]

Will only show the text to users with the magazine custom field enabled.

Do not forget to enable the Welcome email within the welcome email settings page or it will not replace the existing one.

Invoicing/Receipts

Mail Manager has the ability to send email receipts when a user purchases a package (subscription), individual post or a content bundle. Each of the three purchase types can have different emails which can be completely customised. The emails are fired after the payment is received hook.

Using Receipts

Note: While the invoice emails are always sent using wp-mail, Mail Manager must be configured with your gateway of choice before you try to edit any of the emails.

To create or edit your receipt emails, select Mail Manager from the Your Members admin and then Invoicing (this may say Receipts depending on version).

Each purchase type is held in a separate bundle and must be activated and configured individually. The following special shortcodes may be used within the email or subject line:

  • [blogname] - name as defined in WordPress Settings
  • [blogurl] - URL as defined in WordPress Settings
  • [loginurl] - location of wp_login.php
  • [ym_mm_type] - The purchase type (package, bundle, post)
  • [ym_mm_title] - The name of the bundle, package or post
  • [ym_mm_cost] - The total amount deducted from the member
In addition there are two other useful shortcodes:

[ym_mm_custom_field field=""] - displays the content of a custom field, these are normally collected on register, if it has no content it will display nothing for example:

Country: [ym_mm_custom_field field="country"]

Will show the country the user was from.

[ym_mm_if_custom_field field=""] - Displays content depending on the result of a custom field, content inside the custom tags are only shown to those who have content in the custom field. For example

[ym_mm_if_custom_field field="magazine"]Your Complimentary copy of our magazine is on it's way to you[/ym_mm_if_custom_field]

Will only show the text to users with the magazine custom field enabled.
