#Glossary Here you can find a simple description of any terms used in this guide, and in YM in general. To search for a term quickly use the ctrl+F find function. ###Admin Interface The Admin Interface is the page through which you can do all of the administrative tasks in YM. You can reach it by logging onto your WordPress site, and finding Your Members in the plugins section. ###API API stands for “application programming interface” and it allows one piece of software to work and interact with another piece of software. ###Autoresponder An autoresponder series is a series of pre-written e-mails which are sent to a user on a fixed schedule. These can be marketing e-mails or life-cycle e-mails. An autoresponder series is different from a standard e-mail autoresponder which you might use on your e-mail while on holiday. ###Child Account A Child Account is a second-level account in a group membership. This means that it has a “Parent” account which is the group leader of the group membership. ###CMS CMS stands for “content management system”. A CMS is used to build a website or blog, and it organises the content or data on that website or blog. YourMembers works with WordPress, a popular CMS. ###Content Content is what you put on your website. Normally it is original and specific to you. It’s what you want to protect, or sell to members. ###Core Plugin The core plugin is the main module of Your Members. You will need this module for Your Members to run properly. ###Custom Fields A custom field is a field which the user fills in with their details - the details needed on a registration form, for example, will be put into custom fields. ###FTP client FTP stands for “file transfer protocol”, and an FTP client is a programme which you can use to upload files to your website. An example of a common FTP client would be Cyberduck for Mac or Filezilla for Windows. ###Guest A user who has visited your site but has yet to sign up to a membership package. ###MailChimp MailChimp is an email provider and a platform for designing newsletters and templated emails, which can be customised to suit your business. ###Mail Manager Module This is a module for YourMembers which works with email providers like MailChimp. It allows you to control autoresponders and other email campaigns within WordPress. ###MailChimp Autoresponder This is part of the Mail Manager Module on YourMembers. It allows you to send out customised marketing or life-cycle e-mails automatically, using the MailChimp platform. ###Member A user who has signed up to a membership package. Using YourMembers you can create a variety of tailored membership packages. ###Module A module is a plugin which is an add-on to YourMembers. ###Niche Payment Gateway A niche payment gateway is a gateway designed to specifically cater to transactions for the 18+ market. ###Orphan Account An account which has been “Orphanised” is a lower-level account in a group membership which has been left without a “Parent” account. This account will show as inactive. ###Package A package is the Users subscribe to a package which provides access to content, user role, duration and the reoccurrence of any billing. ###Page A page is an area of a website normally dedicated to a specific function, such as product details or contact for the company. It contains your website content. ###Pagination Pagination is just the way in which a program decides where to split content into separate pages. This can be in content (so for example how Microsoft Word decides where to put breaks and begin new pages) or it can be in information (for example your list of members will be broken down into pages using pagination). ###Parent Account A “Parent Account” is a top-level account in a group membership. It is the main account in a group, and can have several “Child” accounts connected to it. ###Password A password is a secret word or phrase which is used alongside a username to access a website. You should avoid using the same password for multiple accounts, and you should not give your password out to other people. ###Payment Gateway A payment gateway is an application which allows you to sell products or services online. A payment gateway is just an electronic cash register. Your Members supports several payment gateways. ###PayPal PayPal is one of the the most popular payment gateways on the internet. It is used to securely pay and organise transactions online. ###PCI-DSS An international standard for securing online transactions. ###Plugin A plugin is used to add features to your website, or to make it easier to use your website. YourMembers is a plugin which adds the ability to manage members to your website. ###Post Posts are like pages because they display your content to the public. They are often used on blog-format websites, and can have less content per post than pages. ###Registration Flow A registration flow is the series of steps a user goes through when they choose to register on a website. It can include a variety of fields which often include name, e-mail address, and a page for taking payment. ###Secure Stream Module This is a module for YourMembers. It allows you to show video to your users using a link which only works when it is used on your website, meaning that the video can’t be shown anywhere else. ###Shortcode A shortcode is a command which you can use to modify your content - the private shortcode tags, for example, make any content between them private. ###Subscription A subscription is the agreement a customer makes to pay for content repeatedly over a period of time. They can either make a one-off payment for content to be fed to them slowly, or they can set up a repeated payment. ###TOS TOS stands for “terms of service”. These are the important legal details which are related to most products online, and you should always read them carefully as they can be different for different things. ###Tutorial A tutorial is a series of steps designed to teach a user how to use an aspect of a website. The tutorial is normally available the first time the user tries a functionality, though it can often be found later if it’s needed. ###Username A username is the word or phrase (often your real name, or a part of it) which relates to your account on a website. Using it along with your password you can log into your personal account area of a website. ###User Role Each user you have is given a role. If they are a member then often they’ll just be a subscriber, but if you’d prefer them to have the role of an Administrator or Editor, for example, you can change their role on the “Edit User” screen. ###Wizard A wizard is a series of steps designed to help a user through an aspect of a website. A wizard guides the user through each action in turn so that they don’t get confused. ###WordPress WordPress is a popular online publishing system, sometimes referred to as a CMS, which can be used to build websites or blogs. ###Wrap To “wrap” something with shortcode tags means that you place the shortcode tags before and after the content, so that the content is all contained between the two tags. If you don’t fully wrap your content some of it may not be protected by the shortcode. ###YM YM stands for “Your Members” and it’s the term we use all over our website, and in our documentation. Whenever you see YM, we are talking about the Your Members WordPress plugin.
