Product Backlog priority and sketch of SERLER search screen

Peter mentioned that the highest priority for him

  1. is to allow registered users (practitioners, researchers, students) to be able to search for relevant information in the SERLER repository.

    The next thing would be

  2. to be able to display the info nicely.

    Then, in order of importance:

  3. to be able to get submissions from the “crowd”

  4. to help the moderators to do the QA and

  5. to help the SERLER analyst to get the info from the queue of submitted articles that have passed QA

(this should enable you to create an initial product backlog of user stories in the format as a …..I want…..so that…..)

I asked Peter to sketch up what the screen for searching SERLER could look like, since this is the highest priority. Here is what he came up with - hope it helps.

Peter's attempt at a user story!

As a registered user of SERLER I want to be able to search for empirical evidence on different methods based on different constraints so that I can make informed decisions.

NOTE: Things like the SE method, the research method, a date range, an author, the credibility rating, the benefit being tested. Any combination of these should be possible for a search as inclusion and/or exclusion criteria.

Logo for the SERLER product

Peter just asked me if you would come up with a logo for the SERLER product.

Questions from a Team and Answers from Peter

PETER'S ANSWERS ARE IN CAPITALS

  1. Operator: “They will also check that each article is relevant to SE and the empirical evaluation of SE practices and methods and has been published in a peer reviewed journal.” OPERATOR IS MODERATOR

    • What does SE stand for?
      SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

    • Can you inform more details about this process?
      SUCH AS WHAT?

    • Does this process need to be supported by the system or the operator will do manually (ie. outside the scope of this project)? If yes, how?
THIS IS THE MODERATOR’S JOB. WE CAN SUPPORT THEM TO MANAGE THE QUEUE OF SUBMITTED PAPERS. AS INDICATED ED ON BLACKBOARD THIS IS NOT TOO PRIORITY

  2. What is specific information (fields) will be recorded for an accepted submission/ article?
I HAVEN’T THOUGHT THIS THROUGH COMPLETELY - IT’S THE INFO THE ANALYST EXTRACTS THAT USERS CAN SEARCH ON SORT ON AND VIEW. OR DO YOU MEAN WHAT INFO THE MODERATOR PASSES ON TO THE ANALYST IF IT PASSES THE MODERATORS QA? THAT WOULD BE THE REFERENCE INFO TO THE PAPER SO THEY CAN LOOK IT UP IN A DATABASE IN AUT LIBRARY ONLINE.

  3. “The SERL analyst will analyse each of the papers in the analysis queue and extract the appropriate information from the articles to enter into SERLER.”

    • How to define item on the analysis queue?
IT'S THE BIBLIOGRAPHIC INFO TO THE PAPER SO THE ANALYST CAN LOOK IT UP IN AUT ONLINE LIBRARY DATABASE.

    • Does it like the operator will approve articles on the submission queue first then those approved articles will be moved to analysis queue?
YES- THE "OPERATOR" IS THE MODERATOR. THE SYSTEM SHOULD MAKE A QUEUE OF ARTICLES THAT PASSED QA AND ARE READY TO BE ANALYSED.

  4. Administrator: “modify, or delete any evidence records in SERLER”

    • What is the evidence record?
THE RECORD OF INFO IN THE DATABASE THAT THE ANALYST EXTRACTED FROM A PAPER AND CAN NOW BE SEARCHED AND SORTED AND VIEWED BY USERS.

    • What fields will be stored for an evidence record?
I HAVEN’T THOUGHT THIS THROUGH COMPLETELY - IT’S THE INFO THE ANALYST EXTRACTS THAT USERS CAN SEARCH ON SORT ON AND VIEW.
DO YOU NEED TO KNOW IT ALL NOW?
