Problems with Multiple Network Shares

Introduction

If you have more than one network share that you want to use with MovieJukebox you will come across the Multiple Network Share problem.

Basically, the NMT will only mount one network share at a time, once that share is mounted files on other shares will not be available.

Please visit this thread for more information and to make Sybas aware of the problem and how it affects you:

Workarounds

Option 1

Move all files from separate shares into a sub-directory and share that directory, e.g.From this:

D:\Movies << Shared as Movies
D:\TV << Shared as TV
D:\Films << Shared as Films

To this:

D:\Videos << Shared as Videos
D:\Videos\Movies
D:\Videos\TV
D:\Videos\Films

Then use the "Videos" share

Option 2

If it is not possible, or impracticable, to move the video files into a single share, then separate jukeboxes might be good solution.

This works better if each of the shared drives have logically grouped content, such as in the example above.

Create a jukebox and save the index to the root of the share and the jukebox will start as soon as you browse to that share.

Option 3 - PC (By Bob/doubledrat)

This option assumes that you want to add an additional disk(s) to your PC to store new video files. You can create normal folders in the "Media" folder created below to be accessed as normal. This works on PC machines only (Not Macs, Linux or NAS) Note: C: must be NTFS, but could be any drive on your PC.

  • Create folder called C:\Media
  • Create C:\Media\Disk1
  • Create C:\Media\Disk2
  • Right click "my computer" and choose "manage"
  • Choose disk management
  • Right click on your first drive (Disk1) and choose "Change drive letters and paths..."
  • Click Add...
  • Choose "mount to the following empty NTFS folder" and type in C:\Media\Disk1
  • Do the same for your new drive but mount to C:\Media\Disk2
  • Share C:\Media as you would any other share you want the NMT to see
  • Setup a connection to that share using the NMT call it "media"
  • Configure YAMJ saying that the NMT "media" share is actually C:\Media
  • Optionally, configure YAMJ to store the jukebox folder in C:\Media
  • Move all your existing Jukebox .xml and .html files somewhere else (rather than delete them). You can leave the jpgs where they are
  • Rerun YAMJ

Option 4 - Mac (By Mhale62)

Other options

There are other options that may suit you better, for example, using a web server to stream files from multiple disparate shared drives (e.g. different computers).

These are better discussed on the forums.
