Syncing with the phone

Everything goes over USB with adb, which is included. The phone needs USB debugging enabled and this PC allowed (see Getting started).

Send to phone (INVIA AL TELEFONO)

Xaos compares the library with the phone and lists what is missing, grouped by album. Tick or untick albums or single songs; your choices are remembered.

• Songs go to /sdcard/Music/Xaos, in the same folders they have on the PC. The folder can be changed in IMPOSTAZIONI > TELEFONO.
• If a song has an MP3 copy, that copy is sent (about a fifth of a FLAC). This can be changed in IMPOSTAZIONI > TELEFONO.
• A song Xaos already sent is sent again only if the file changed on the PC, for example after editing its tags.
• Nothing is ever deleted on the phone.

Import from phone (IMPORTA DAL TELEFONO)

Lists the music that exists only on the phone and copies it to Music\Dal telefono on the PC (configurable), keeping the phone's folders. Nothing changes on the phone. Songs shorter than 30 seconds are skipped, and a song found several times on the phone is imported once.

How songs are recognised

The same song can have a different name or folder on the two devices, so paths do not count. Xaos compares:

1. the path, when the file is one that Xaos itself sent;
2. title and artist;
3. the title without brackets ("(feat. ...)", "[Remastered]") plus the duration, within 3 seconds;
4. the title reduced to plain letters and digits plus the duration. Android sometimes reads accented titles wrongly ("Une vie ŕ peindre" for "Une vie à peindre"), and this step still recognises them.

Lyrics

After the comparison Xaos checks the lyrics of the MP3 files on the phone. Songs whose lyrics on the PC are missing or different on the phone are listed; AGGIORNA TESTI writes only the lyrics into the phone's file.

Favorites, playlists, history

Exchanged both ways at every connection, and with the SINCRONIZZA ORA button.

• Each side keeps its own changes. If the same song was changed on both sides, the phone wins.
• A playlist deleted on one side disappears from the other. Name, description and cover take the change made since the last sync; if both sides changed them, the phone wins.
• Playlist covers travel as image files, only when the other side does not have them yet.
• Plays are merged, never counted twice.
• A favorite for a song that exists only on one device stays on that device.

The app on the phone must be 1.3.0 or later; if it is older, the TELEFONO screen offers the update.

Themes

• Presets travel with favorites and playlists, both ways. A preset added, renamed or deleted on one side changes on the other too; if the same preset changed on both sides, the phone wins.
• The theme in use stays on each device. The TEMA card on the TELEFONO screen shows a preview of both, and copies one onto the other: PC > TELEFONO or TELEFONO > PC. The phone's preview appears after the first exchange.

The phone needs Xaos 1.5.1 or later for presets and for copying the theme.

App install and update

The desktop app carries the Android app. When the phone does not have Xaos, or has an older version, the TELEFONO screen offers to install or update it (INSTALLA XAOS or AGGIORNA XAOS), after asking. Updating keeps the phone's data.
