Downloads and lyrics
Downloading music
Type in the search box and press CERCA IN RETE (search online). Results come from YouTube; SCARICA (download) saves the song as an MP3 at the best quality, with title, artist and cover inside the file.
- Desktop: downloads go to
Music\Xaos(change it in IMPOSTAZIONI > DOWNLOAD) and appear in the library right away. - Android: downloads go to
Music/Xaoson the phone.
Keeping downloads working
YouTube often changes, and an old yt-dlp gets "403 Forbidden".
- The desktop app keeps its own copy of yt-dlp in
%USERPROFILE%\.xaos\tools, checks for updates once a day and, after a 403, updates and retries by itself. ffmpeg and Deno (the JavaScript engine yt-dlp needs for YouTube) come with the installer. - The Android app updates its yt-dlp and tries other YouTube clients when a download is refused. IMPOSTAZIONI (the gear at the top right) also has AGGIORNA MOTORE DOWNLOAD (update the download engine).
Lyrics
Xaos reads lyrics stored inside the files (in MP3 files, the ID3 USLT frame). Lyrics with timestamps, in LRC format, scroll with the song:
[00:26.47]Broken by design
[00:29.25]This world, it feeds on hate
On the desktop, the lyrics editor searches LRCLIB, a free lyrics database, and shows synced results first. Pick one, adjust it if needed, save.
Songs downloaded on the desktop get their lyrics by themselves: right after the download Xaos searches LRCLIB and adds the lyrics only when a result has the same duration as the song (within 1.5 seconds), so it is almost surely the same recording. Synced lyrics are preferred. If nothing matches, the song simply has no lyrics, and you can add them from the editor.
If you keep lyrics in .lrc files next to the songs, IMPOSTAZIONI > LIBRERIA > INCORPORA I TESTI copies them into the files, because the phone only reads lyrics inside files.
To get new lyrics onto the phone, connect it: the TELEFONO screen lists the songs to update.
