Android app

Bottom bar

Tab What it does
HOME Recently played albums, the monthly recap, most played and songs to rediscover, and a yearly recap you can share as an image.
LIBRERIA (library) Songs, albums and artists.
PLAYLIST A grid like the albums, favorites first. Press and hold a playlist to delete it.
CERCA (search) Your library, and YouTube for downloads.

Every section has a gear at the top right that opens IMPOSTAZIONI (settings):

  • ASPETTO (appearance): dark theme on or off, PERSONALIZZA TEMA (custom theme);
  • RIPRODUZIONE (playback): equalizer, sleep timer (with the time left when it is running);
  • LIBRERIA (library): rescan, AGGIORNA MOTORE DOWNLOAD (update the download engine);
  • INFO: the app version and a link to this project.

Albums and playlists

They open like on Spotify: large cover, details (album, artist and year, or the playlist description), number of songs and length, then the songs.

On a playlist:

  • tap the cover to choose a new one from your photos;
  • the pencil edits name and description, and can remove the cover;
  • the bin deletes the playlist.

Now playing

Swipe up from the mini player. The screen has the cover, lyrics, shuffle, repeat, favorite, sleep timer and queue. The three dots menu has the background: a dot matrix that reacts to the music, the same matrix standing still, the album art full screen, or nothing.

Custom theme

IMPOSTAZIONI > PERSONALIZZA TEMA opens the same theme editor as the desktop app: background (plain or gradient), panels, text and accent colors, and the background dots on or off. Changes show up while you pick.

SALVA COME PRESET saves the colors you are using under a name; saving with a name that already exists updates that preset. Tap a preset to apply it; the pencil renames it and the bin deletes it. Presets are shared with the PC when you sync.

Home screen widget

A square 2x2 widget in the Nothing OS style. Add it from the home screen: press and hold, Widgets, Xaos.

  • The first page is the cover of the song playing. Tap it to play or pause; the accent dot at the top right is there while the music plays.
  • Scroll down for the lyrics in sync: the current line in the middle, the previous and next ones around it. Long lines get smaller instead of being cut.
  • If the song has no synced lyrics, the widget has only the cover and does not scroll.
  • Colors and fonts follow the app: light, dark or custom theme, and the Nothing OS fonts on Nothing phones.
  • With nothing playing it shows TOCCA PER APRIRE (tap to open).

The lyrics page needs Android 12 or later; on older phones the widget shows the cover only.

Listening history

A play is counted after 30 seconds, or at the end for shorter songs. The history keeps the last 8000 plays and feeds the recaps and the automatic playlists. It is shared with the desktop app when you sync.

Where the music comes from

Xaos shows the music Android knows about. Voice notes and ringtones are left out. Downloads are saved in Music/Xaos, and so are the songs sent from the PC.
