Sandbox - Xansta/EEScenarios GitHub Wiki

The sandbox lets you run missions with added controls for the GM. I have heard little or no feedback on this wiki. If anyone has feedback, I'll take it. I can't tell if anyone is using this or not.

Quick Start

Once you've put scenario_09_sandbox.lua in the scripts folder of your Empty Epsilon installation and the rest of the files in the sandbox subdirectory under scripts (errorHandling.lua, extraMath.lua, library.lua, science_database.lua, main.lua, snippets.lua), launch Empty Epsilon and click the Start server button. Click the start server button on the next screen unless you need to configure things like server password, GM control code, port, etc. I categorized the sandbox as 'Development' on the next screen. Select the Sandbox scenario and click the Start scenario button. The next screen presents you with common configuration choices. Just click the start scenario button. On the next screen, click the game master button. You're now on the game master (GM) screen where most of your interaction with the sandbox scenario takes place (assuming you're the GM). The sandbox has added a bunch of custom buttons just under the Pause button and the faction widget. At the top of the list is the +Initial Set Up button. The rest of the label tells you the version of the sandbox you're running.

Main

The sandbox uses the following convention for button labels:

  • If the first character is a plus sign ("+"), then the button brings up another set of buttons.
  • If the first character is a minus sign ("-"), then the button takes you back to a previous set of buttons.

Now we want to spawn a player ship. Click the +Initial Set Up button. In the next set of buttons, click the +Player ships 0 button. The zero indicates how many player ships are active. In the next set of buttons, click the +Spawn button. Between the buttons labeled --Active Ships-- are the list of player ships currently active. These are all custom player ships set up for use in the sandbox. You can spawn stock player ships, as well if you prefer. If you click the --Active Ships-- button, you will get a list of scrapped ships. These represent ships that have deployed and then been destroyed. Salvage operations often bring these ships back into the game, so feel free to spawn a custom player ship from the list of scrapped ships.

Once you've spawned a player ship you are ready to go. If you're still trying to get started quickly, I suggest you spawn some enemies. Notice the two circles around the player ship. The inner circle is their short range radar range, the outer circle is their long range radar range. You should know that when the player docks with Icarus station, they will automatically get a 10 unit range increase to their long range radar range. Do the following to spawn enemies: -Player Ship > -Main > +Spawn Ship(s) > +Spawn Fleet > Spawn. You'll notice that the Spawn button changes into a >Spawn< button. This means that the GM screen is waiting for you to click on the screen to tell the sandbox the location of the enemies you want to spawn. Click outside of the player's sensor range. By default the sandbox spawns a fleet that is relatively comparable to the present player ships. The current default behavior for enemy ships spawned using this method is to stand their ground. If you're done spawning enemies, click the >Spawn< button to disable the GM Click mode. To make the newly spawned ships act more threatening, select them (I recommend a box drag). Then you can either click the Roaming button near the bottom right of the screen or you can right click near Icarus station. Roaming tells the enemy ships to pick the nearest enemy target and start attacking. The right click near Icarus tells them to fly to where you clicked, attacking any convenient enemy along the way.

Summary By Button Label

Buttons with an asterisk at the end of the label indicate a selected option.
