This is the overview and theme layout for the Colosseum of Tormius. The Colosseum is a 4 player deathmatch map that I am working on to help improve my understanding of level flow, understanding player movement, and good competitive design. My first step for the design was to think out a single basic word that could help to spark bigger ideas. For me that word was Colosseum, an arguably overused theme in competitive FPS games but one that is still worth putting some time and effort into. Current inspiration for the design of the level was the roman Colosseum at least as far as the basic idea, overall the current layout of the map was meant to be like that of an upside down whirlpool swirling the players up either towards the center of the map or up to the second layer. The goal of this level is to survive in the actual arena portion of the map for as long as possible with the health packs and ammo crates supplied. In this map the focus is less on getting the best weapons to destroy your opponent but rather getting better at shooting and anticipating your foes to gain victory. Hope that you stick with the development of the level and try it out to see if the goals were succeeded or if more work is necessary. Tips and observations would be greatly appreciated.
