Digital artwork often employs generative visuals in which a system live generates the visuals at the time of viewing. Rather than pre-creating and displaying the artwork, as you would for graphic design or video editing, a program responds to a random number generator or some other kind of input to create visuals.

Generative art is produced mathematically, using and responding to an algorithm, as opposed to prepared art, which is created chiefly from human inputs.
