Cropping Videos with OpenShot Video Editor 19 July 2025 - Tested With OpenShot Version 3.3.0|0.4.0

Effects -> Crop

Drag the Crop effect to the clip (near the bottom of the screen).

A small C symbol will appear over the clip - click on it

Set Left Size and Right Size (on a scale of 0.00 to 1.00)

Resize Image -> Right click -> Yes

Rotation -> 270 (For computer screens that are in portrait orientation.)

Scale -> Right Click -> None

To perform a Crop you need to use the "Crop" Effect. Click on the Effects tab, find the Crop effect, now drag it onto your clip. You will see the Crop effect icon on the clip (letter C in a small box). Click on it and you will note the properties of the Crop effect. Adjust the properties until you get the desired effect.

Under Crop settings, change the value of "Resize Image" from "No" to "Yes" and it will eliminate the blank space you cropped out and re-center the video, albeit with the same aspect ratio and resolution as the original (so it will sort of zoom in on the cropped area as opposed to making the video resolution smaller)
