Converting Cisco LWAP to Controller

Converting Cisco 4800 LWAP to Cisco 4800 Controller via TFTP

  1. Download the Cisco Mobility Express image for Cisco Aironet 4800

  2. Download Tftpd64

  3. Connect AP to a POE injector or POE switch and connect your PC to POE injector or POE switch

  4. Set your wired connection to: 192.168.2.1, subnet: 255.255.255.0

  5. Open Tftpd64

  6. Set Server Interface to 192.168.2.2, and select the folder holding your image

  7. Connect a console cable to the AP and open up PuTTY

  8. Enter enable mode and set IP of AP: capwap ap ip 192.168.2.2 255.255.255.0 192.168.2.1

  9. Install image: ap-type mobility-express tftp://192.168.2.1/AIR-AP4800-K9-ME-8-10-196-0.tar

  10. Reboot the AP: reload

  11. Confirm controller image: show version You should see "AP Image type : MOBILITY EXPRESS IMAGE AP Configuration : MOBILITY EXPRESS CAPABLE"
