How to set up an "Outbound Click" conversion action in Google Ads, tailored to both the "New" and "Old" design formats.

"New" Google Ads design

1. Main Page

  • Click the Goals button in the left sidebar.
  • The Summary page should open.

2. Creating a New Conversion Action

  • Click "New conversion action".
  • Choose the "Website" category.
  • Enter your domain and click "Scan".
  • Scroll down to the section "Create conversion actions manually using code".
  • Click "Add a conversion action manually".

3. Filling Out Conversion Action Details

  • In the section "Conversion action details":
    • Under "Goal and action optimization", select "Outbound click".
    • Fill in other required fields with the necessary information.
  • Click "Done".
  • Click "Agree and continue".
  • Click "Done" again (Note: We will set up the Google tag and event snippet later).

4. Viewing the Created Conversion Action

  • You should now see the Summary page with your created conversion action listed.
  • Click on the name in the table to view details.

5. Tag Setup

  • On the Details page, click on "Tag setup".
  • Click on "Install the tag yourself".
  • In the "Google tag" section, choose the second option: "The Google tag is already installed on all pages...".
  • Copy this gtag to Waivio.
  • In the "Event snippet" section, choose the second option: "Click".
  • Copy and save this event snippet to Waivio.

6. Completion

  • The Conversion action "Outbound click" is now created and added.
  • If you go back to the Summary page, you might see an Inactive status; you can click "Troubleshoot" for assistance.

"Old" Google Ads design

Difference in Menu Location.

1. Main Page

  • Click on "Tools and Settings" in the header.
  • Select "Conversions" under the "Measurement" column.
  • This action should open the Summary page.

After reaching this point, the process is the same as for the "New" design. Continue from the 2nd step ("Creating a New Conversion Action").

Note: If the main menu is not visible in either the new or old design, a pop-up may appear, asking if you want to switch to expert mode. Approve the prompt to switch to expert mode. After switching, you will have the option to choose between the old and new appearances, each with the necessary menus.
