PnK: Making Bones Bread
You usually find baked Bones Bread in the base loot chest of a Beanstalk. If you've managed to collect some Stained Bones, and found a Bones Grinding Stone, you can make a version of this bread provided you also have the VanillaFoodPantry mod installed so you can craft the other required ingredients: Leavening Agent and Powdered Milk.
and better consumption mechanics.
Bones Bread is pretty handy food item to have: each bread contains as much nutrition as 10 cooked steaks or 16 standard bread loaves but with a saturation value of golden carrots. You can repeatedly eat from a single bread until it is all used up -- you only consume as much food value as you need so no more wasting high-value food just to keep your health regen working. And, fresh Bones Bread stacks up to 24 per slot, so you can carry quite a bit of high quality food without using up too many inventory slots.
Step 1: Find a Bones Grinding Stone
Before you can begin making Bones Bread, you must locate a stained Bones Grinding Stone. Grinding stones are present only in the random loot chests of a beanstalk. They're fairly uncommon, but you only need to find one as the stones are reusable and never wear out when used to grind bones.
To use a Grinding Stone, you'll need some disposable grinding pads called Bones Grinding Slabs. You can create three(3) grinding slabs by using the grinding stone itself on a smooth stone slab with some sand.
Step 2: Collect Stained Bones and Stalk Nuts
You'll find Stained Bones in a beanstalk's various loot boxes and chests; you can also find them rarely in desert pyramid loot chests. Stalk Nuts are dropped occasionally from beanstalk leaves. You'll need to collect a few from a beanstalk (beanstalk leaves also drop gold nuggets and other goodies, so it's worth the effort).
To use the stalknuts you've collected, you must first roast them in a furnace (or equivalent). Note that you can eat roasted stalknuts directly () or use them to create Fine Bones Flour.
Step 3: Create Fine Bones Flour
To create the main flour for the bones bread, you need to grind Stained Bones and Stalk Nuts together; use a standard crafting table with the shaped recipe shown below. Each portion of fine flour requires one stained bone and two roasted stalk nut portions. You'll need two sets of flour for the bones bread dough.
Note that you can use only plain stained bones for this recipe. Bones that you have altered to make Impressible Bones or other items will not work.
Step 4: Create Bones Bread Dough
This step requires ingredients normally found in the VanillaFoodPantry mod. If you're playing a custom modpack, it's possible these items can be obtained by other means. Bones bread dough is not edible; you need to bake the dough in a furnace (or equivalent) before it's ready.
Step 5: Bake Dough, Eat Bread
Fresh, or unused, Bones Bread is stackable to 24; however you can only eat from single, unstacked loaves. This requirement ensures as you repeatedly eat from one loaf, its remaining food value (shown as a durability bar in your player HUD) is not applied to the entire stack as is the default for Minecraft inventories.
When you eat a portion of bones bread, you will usually consume between 4pts () and 7pts (
) of food value. However, if your health value is below 75%, the maximum food value per portion will double up to 14pts. Unless you've let yourself nearly starve before eating some bread, 14pts is typically enough to get you to full food saturation and your health should begin to regen assuming normal hunger and health-regen game mechanics.
Other Tips
Grinding Bone Meal
You can use a Bones Grinding Stone to create regular bone meal as well as Fine Bones Flour. By using the grinding stone you get about 80% or 4 pieces more bone meal per skeleton bone.
