Inchoate Gold (also called Living Gold) is dropped on rare occasion by enchanted beanstalk leaf blocks. You can also find it in the beanstalk's inner heart loot boxes. Inchoate Gold is part of the gold-laced living essense of a beanstalk. It's the stuff MrG lives for!

Sometimes found in heart loot boxes too.

Main Use

Most of the time you'll want to transform your Inchoate Gold into Living Gold because you can use Living Gold to mend beanstalk X-Enchanted tools, weapons, armor, and other gear even when they are no longer repairable with a regular anvil. Note that Living Gold will not repair regular golden tools or weapons.

There are two ways to transform Inchoate Gold. (Note that Living Gold is bound to a particular player, so if you want to gift your Inchoate Gold to another player, you should give it to them and let them perform one of the following steps.)

1. While Looting Beanstalk

If you pick-up or find Inchoate Gold while raiding a beanstalk, you can transform the gold immediately by right-clicking it against the young heart core wood found at the beanstalk's crown. This method is rarely possible though, as it requires the young core wood to remain intact throughout your pillaging...a highly unlikely thing. If however, you've figured out how to farm beanstalks, this method is useful for transforming previously obtained Inchoate Gold.

2. After Looting Beanstalk

The better technique is to save your Inchoate Gold as such, and to try to obtain one or more beanstalk Heartworms as drops. With one heartworm you can use a regular crafting table to transform the Inchoate Gold into your own piece of Living Gold. The transformation is done when you pick-up the new gold from the crafting table.

Transformed and bound to you on pick-up!

Repairing X-Enchanted items

Once you've got your Living Gold, to continually repair an item you have to hold the Living Gold in your off-hand or hotbar and wear or put the item(s) to repair in your main hand. Like the standard mending enchantment, the repair effect only ever repairs a small percentage of damage (~20%) to a single item per repair attempt (the gold picks a random item from the set of repairable items). The default behavior will attempt a repair every few ticks or approximately every 10-15 secs normal time. Each piece of X-enchanted gear has its own unique repair cost; this price is applied against the gold's durability (see below).

Live mending only covers whatever you've got in your main hand and armor slots. If you want to repair other items in your hotbar, you need to apply the living-gold directly; doing so also lets you repair more items at once. To repair everything in one shot, take the Living Gold into your main hand, leave the repairable items in your hotbar and/or armor slots, and right-click the gold in mid-air. This method is particularly useful for repairing all your equipment quickly. Items in modded player inventory slots like baubles, curios, and extra inventories (Cyclic, etc.) are NOT affected.

The regular Mending enchantment works just fine for X-Enchanted items, but it requires the player to pickup XP orbs. Living Gold can be carried by the player and used for repair without the need for Xp orbs or an enchantment per item.

Each piece of Living Gold has a limited amount of golden goodness it can dispense to repair items. This limit shows up as a durability bar in your status display bar (HUD). A single piece can repair 3-4 X-Enchanted golden items enough times to give them a base durability similar to an iron item of the same type. Eventhough it shows durability, you cannot mend or amend Living or Inchoate Gold with other enchantments such as unbreaking, mending, efficiency, or infinity.

Repairing Mendable-Enchanted items

There is an option for you to have Living Gold repair ANY item which holds a regular Mending enchantment regardless of whether that item is X-enchanted (found in a beanstalk). This feature is disabled by default and you'll need to toggle the option in the mod's configuration.

When enabled, when you activate your living gold, it works as described above except the set of repairable items grows to include any item with mending. Live mending only applies to X-enchanted items even with this option turned on.

Other Use

You can use Inchoate Gold to create single-use Golden Eggs. If you plan on using your gold this way, do NOT transform it to Living Gold!
