The Hellfire Sword is a master reforger's specialty sword. The Hellfire is custom made for use against Nether dimension mobs or any mob that is resistant or immune to fire and lava damage. It is particularly useful against hostiles like zombie pigmen who pull in nearby 'friends' or can trigger the spawning of reinforcements in response to being attacked. The Hellfire will neutralize this effect. The stats shown in the sword's tooltips are the minimum damage the sword inflicts; if you're fighting in the nether dimension, the hellfire can one-shot kill all standard mobs and even hardened mobs with up to 50 max health.

Secondary Attacks
In addition to its direct damage, the Hellfire sword has a secondary custom attack that sets the target on hell fire for 16 seconds. This fire is NOT usual fire-- it is hell fire and it will burn all mobs including those immune to regular fire. Water and rain will not stop the burning. Hellfire is equally deadly for players.
The sword has builtin knockback and the attacking player is given a short 15 sec fire dousing buff on each hit so touching burning mobs in close quarters is not a problem. If you're really concerned about catching fire (eg in hard mode) just sneak right-click the sword in the air to give yourself an immediate 2 min fire dousing effect.
Eminently Corruptible
The Hellfire sword benefits greatly from a max level Corrupting Taint enchantment. Max corruption can double or even triple the actual damage per hit depending on where the sword is being used-- combat in the nether dimension benefits the most. The additional damage is computed dynamically so it is not present in the shown base attributes of the sword's tooltip.
There Be Consequences
Using the Hellfire sword outside of the nether dimension can be problematic. In particular, using the hellfire against any kind of skeleton (including modded ones), can resurrect a blaze wraith if the skeleton dies while suffering the effects of hellfire burning.
If a creeper explodes while under the effects of Hellfire, it will spawn a lingering cloud of this deadly fire -- make sure you're no where near it! If you cannot avoid contact with the cloud, immediately activate the sword's dousing effect.
Repair
The only way to repair a Hellfire sword is with a Master Reforger's Gem but you can extend the sword's durability with both the Unbreaking and Mending enchantments. Mod-specific enchantments like Scavenging Heal and Parasitic Mending also work.
