PnK: Farming Dung

Dung Cake is a renewable fuel you create from large animal waste and hay. Each dung cake can smelt 4 items giving it half the efficiency of charcoal. If you use a SmartHoppers mod's Packaging Hopper and you're willing to lose some production efficiency you can fully automate the production of dung cake fuel without any redstone.

Wet Dung Blocks

You need to combine Manure with hay to create Wet Dung blocks for drying. You can use either regular hay blocks (9 wheat) or the SuperBlocks mod's Packed Wheat (4 wheat). Obviously the packed wheat is the more efficient use of wheat.

Air-Drying Wet Dung

After you've crafted enough Wet Dung blocks, you need to lay them out to dry. When broken, each dried block will produce at least 9 dung cakes; use a Fortune-enchanted axe to get even more dung cake drops. Manual harvesting will also drop a small amount of experience (Xp) orbs.

	Make sure there is at least two air blocks touching each wet dung block.
	Within a few minutes you will see the blocks begin to dry (see lighter color).
	Use an axe to harvest dried blocks. Use the Fortune-enchant to get more drops.

Furnace-Drying Wet Dung

If you want to create very large amounts of dung cake or want to use it as a fuel source in some sort of assembly line, you can use a regular furnace to dry the Wet Dung blocks. However, you get only 6 dung cakes from each block this way, making it only two-thirds as productive as air-drying.

SmartHoppers Setup:

Assuming you have a way to automatically pipe both the Manure drops and wheat (hay blocks or packed wheat) into a single point, you can use the SmartHoppers mod's Packaging Hopper to assemble the Wet Dung blocks and pipe them into your furnace array for drying. Setup your hopper as shown in the screenshot below.

From the furnace outputs you can pipe the dung cakes to their final destination (which may be another furnace array) or to a Packing Hopper to compress the cakes into blocks of Dung Cake for bulk storage.
