QuickReduce Roadmap
Latest deployed version is 2.3
The milestone projections below describe the development branch to be included into the next release as well as a short description of the anticipated function. Newly discovered bugs will be attempted to be fixed outside the scope of this roadmap.
This roadmap is an approximation and is subject to change as the needs of the ODI community demand.
Version 2.4 - late May 2017?
- improve_pannstarsphot
Photometric calibration to use PanSTARRS catalog as reference in g'r'i'z' filters where available (u' band is not included in panstarrs). After that, fall back to SDSS, USNO. - Reprocess all 5x6 ODI data upon deployment.
Version 2.5
- Improvement to pupil ghost removal
- Implement default pupil ghost subtraction from science image. This is a critical step towards implementing illumination correction downstream.
- This is applicable to all three filter layers, at minimum 1 and 2.
- Pupil ghost template generation is now viable in all layers thanks to the narrow shutter slit mode.
- Fix pupil ghost in fringe template, bug #6
Version 2.6
- Implementation of illumination correction in QR, with the goal to improve photometry and
faint diffuse object detection.
- Across-run template creation, i.e., treat illumination correction as a master calibration product.
- Implement management of illumination correction files in PPA
- Establish best operational practices to generate, manage, and use illumination correction.
Version 2.x
-
photcal
- photometric flat field correction as an after the fact correction (act on image / catalog).
- retain flexibility to implement at the single image basis or on a final stack image.
- develop best practice to apply photometric flat fielding
-
Object catalog generation from stacked images
- match with external catalogs, e.g., PanSTARRS, as a tool to reduce time to publication.
Unscheduled - pending detailed best practice development for default ODI stacks
- improvement to calibration & stacking procedures
- improved WCS matching / recalculation in the context of image stacking
- relative, internal photometric matching
- improved handling of background subtraction
- integration of best practices for illumination / photometric flat field corrections
- psf matching in the context of stacking
- improve meta-information for stacks
Completed milestones
Version 2.3 - Early February 2017
- improve_mastercal.
Note: This is a significant architectural change as the storage schema for long-lived calibration products (fringe map, pupil ghost) will be modified. Infrastructure work at PPA will be required. However, this change will (should) not affect the outcome of quick reduce. - improve_nonlinearity.
Change will only affect the off-site creation of non-linearity corrections, a WIYN-curated calibration product. Adds correction for illumination instabilities during the data acquisition process.
