5.2 SELECTED DESIGN
Selected Concept: Design 1 (ESP-32 Controlled Mechanical Flower)
Based on the quantitative evaluation in the Pugh Matrix (Task 2), Design 1 (ESP-32 Controlled Mechanical Flower) achieved the highest overall score of +14, decisivly,Aurdino-Controlled Mechanical Flower(-16), Kinetiflora : Hexabloom (-3), and Aurabloom:Smart interactive Botanical system (0). it
Key Justifications for Selection:
-
Superior Functional Integration (Score: +14):
- It contributes heavily to the evaluation, while the final cumulative score of +14 represents the net weighted sum of all pugh criteria combined(safety, ease of use,portability,use/features & cost) compare to the baseline aurabloom system.
-
Balanced Cost Efficiency (Score: 0):
- It achieves balanced cost efficiency by using a single ESP-32 MCU to handle control & wirless features directly, eliminating extra shields.editionally,a simple pushrod & helical sleeve drive both the petal rotation & blooming action together, maximising performance while keeping components cost low.
-
Optimal Safety & Structural Stability (Score: 0):
- It achieves optimal safety&structural stability through a well enclosed base housing the ESP-32 MCU & Microstep motor driver, weighted stabilised using marbles.Furthermore its mechanical framework utilises a secure central pushrod ,helical guide sleeve, and guide pin mechanism that guides the peatl linkage smoothly, preventing mechanical jamming and ensuring safe reliable low-voltage operation.
-
Ease of Use & Accessibility (Score: 0):
- It acheives high marks in ease of use & accessibility by featuring a convenient touch switch on the base along side wireless control via the built in ESP-32 wi-fi & BT control MCU.this dual access design allows users to operate the mechanical blooming action & LED lights effortlessly, either through direct physical touch or remotely via a connected device.
-
Lightweight Portability (Score: 0):
- It driving both its rotational twisting & outward blooming actions through a single centre push rod & helical guide sleeve eliminating the need for multiple heavy actuators are complex gear boxes.additionally intergrating all wireless control & processing into a compact ESP-32 MCU keeps the electronic assembly light weight&compact ensuring the entire unit remains easy to handle, move&display.
