5.2 SELECTED DESIGN

Selected Concept: Design 3 (4-Wheel Drive Desk Assistant)

Based on the quantitative evaluation in the Pugh Decision Matrix, Design 3 achieved the highest overall score (+21), decisively outperforming the datum and other variants. It aligns perfectly with our objective to create a mobile, automated, and easy-to-use assistant.

Key Justifications for Selection:

  • High Ease of Use (+9): Features an interactive display and automated functions that make hands-free operation seamless.
  • Superior Desk Mobility (+8): The 4-wheel drive system allows for easy and stable movement around the workspace without a bulky footprint.
  • Aesthetics & Visibility (+9): The large interactive display and modern body provide an attractive appearance, while the camera, wheels, and electronic components remain clearly visible for maintenance.
  • Power Flexibility (+8): Runs on a tether-free rechargeable Lithium battery pack, providing convenient portable power without dragging cables across the desk.

5.3 PRODUCT ARCHITECTURE

Activity 2.2: Subsystem List

SL. No. Subsystem Description
1 Sensing & Input Side-mounted Camera sensor used for gesture control recognition and obstacle detection.
2 Control Motion & Storage 4-Wheel Drive chassis for desk mobility and a rear Automated Organizer for carrying items.
3 Interface & Feedback Main 2.8-inch TFT LCD Display for visual interaction and a Bluetooth Speaker for audio alerts.
4 Power and Logic ESP32 Microcontroller for central processing, paired with a Li-ion battery pack and current limiting module.

5.4 FUNCTION CLUSTERING

The system's functions are clustered physically into modular blocks to ease assembly and repair:

  • Base Module (Mobility & Power): Houses the 4-wheel drive DC motors, motor driver, and the Li-ion battery pack to maintain a low center of gravity.
  • Core Logic Module: Centralizes the ESP32 development board, step-down converters, and the current limiting module.
  • Upper Deck Module (Storage & Vision): Contains the automated organizer tray at the rear and mounts the camera sensor on the side for a clear line of sight.
  • Interface Module (Front Face): Clusters the TFT LCD Display and the Bluetooth speaker module at the front to direct feedback toward the user.

5.5 INTERACTION BETWEEN SUBSYSTEMS

Activity 3: Interaction Details

Primary Subsystem Target Subsystem Interaction Details
Subsystem 1 (Sensing) Subsystem 4 (Logic) Data: The camera sensor feeds environmental and gesture data directly into the ESP32 for processing and decision-making.
Subsystem 4 (Logic) Subsystem 2 (Motion) Data/Electrical: The ESP32 sends PWM signals to the motor drivers to control the 4-wheel drive system and trigger the automated organizer.
Subsystem 4 (Logic) Subsystem 3 (Interface) Data: The ESP32 drives the digital faces on the LCD Display and routes audio signals to the Bluetooth speaker.
Subsystem 4 (Power) All Subsystems Material (Electrical): The Li-ion battery routes power through the current limiting module, distributing stable 5V/3.3V logic power to the ESP32 and high-current power to the 4WD motors.
