Submit Weather - VulcanAnalytics/Aero-Met GitHub Wiki

Submit Weather

This is arguably the most important feature of the Aero Met platform. This gives the ability for users of the system to make the weather available to their peers without restriction or the need to pay large fees.

T.L.D.R.

  • Click on the "Plus" sign.
  • Fields as generally found on an ATIS report.
  • There is no validation or verification on the data submitted.
  • All fields are optional.
  • The fields that have been completed are combined to make a single weather message.

1. Add

To get to the weather submission form click where you see the "Plus" sign throughout the application. This is currently found on the main page and search results page.

2. Fields

The fields provided on this page are those typically found on an ATIS report (see Wikipedia - Automatic Terminal Information Service)

All fields except the observation date/time are optional. The date/time should be submitted as Zulu only.

3. Limitations

Here are some of the limitations of the current setup;

  • There is only one template for weather, no simplified view. You can achieve a simpler template by only populating the required fields. I.e., if you want to paste a METAR into the form, paste the entire message into the weather field.
  • Once a report is submitted it can't be edited or removed. You can only submit the information again as a new weather submission.
  • There is no validation for the fields, you can enter nonsense which doesn't conform to METAR, ATIS, or other recognised standards.
  • There is no verification for the fields, you can enter two weather observations 10 minutes apart and claim that the temperature changed from -10 to +40.
  • There are no specified units for field entry, temperature might be in degrees centigrade or Fahrenheit.
  • Only one weather report is displayed for an aerodrome, so for simple reports while they might be interesting in their own right, will dislodge more important information when they are submitted.

Please head over to the project page Release 1.0.0 and raise a new issue or comment on existing issues for triage and feedback.
