Forward Analysis Panel

Forward/Analysis Panel

The Forward/Analysis Panel enables the user to produce plots of reflectance using standard diffusion approximation (SDA) solutions to the radiative transport equation or using scaled Monte Carlo methods.

  1. Fwd Solver: This pull down has four SDA solutions, three for homogenous tissue and one for a two layered tissue model, and two scaled Monte Carlo solutions. Details of the algorithms employed for these solutions can be found on the Analytic Model Descriptions page.
  2. Solution Domain: Six solution domains are provided that describe steady-state, time-domain and frequency-domain reflectance solutions. Checking the "use spectral panel inputs" checkbox will enable the user to include wavelength as an independent variable.
  3. Independent Axis: This checkbox is displayed if "use spectral panel inputs" checkbox is checked. Checking it will enable solutions as a function of the solution domain independent variable and wavelength.
  4. Detector Positions: The Begin, End and Number values are based on the Solution Domain selected and the units are displayed in square brackets accordingly. For example, selecting Solution Domain = R(rho), a Begin = 0.5mm, End=9.5mm and Number=9 will designate rho values every 1mm from 0.5mm to 9.5mm.
  5. Optical Properties: The user can specify optical absorption coefficient (mua), reduced scattering coefficient (mus'), anisotropy coefficient (g) and refractive index (n). The anisotropy coefficient plays no part in the SDA models and so is greyed out. The scaled Monte Carlo solutions were determined using g=0.8 and cannot be changed and is greyed out for those options.
  6. Model/Analysis Output: These radio buttons allow the user to view reflectance (R), the derivative of reflectance with respect to mua (partial R/partial mua), mus' (partial R/partial mus'), g (partial R/partial g) or n (partial R/partial n). Selecting these radio buttons will change the plot shown in the Plot View.
  7. Plot Reflectance: Once all parameters are selected, this button is clicked to produce a reflectance plot in the Plot View.
