Machine Shop Access
In order to gain machine shop access you must complete ISE 2214, Manufacturing Processes Laboratory. This is a 1 credit class which is also a required class for many engineering students.
After you have completed the course, you will need to do the following:
-
Make sure your ware lab badge is current -Print out the “Ware Lab Machine Shop Training Request Form (rev 2)” page on canvas and get it filled out by the ISE lab instructor to verify you have completed the course with a B+.
-
Make sure your EHS certifications are up-to-date, you will need to complete the following in addition to the requirements for your ware lab badge: Machine Shop Safety. (Link)
-
Complete the "Machine Shop Quiz" in canvas. You need an 80 or above.
-
Print and fill out the last page of the "WL machine, welding users manual" under, Files > Policy Manuals.
-
Watch the video titled “The Ware Lab Virtual Machine Shop Training Video” in canvas. There will be a 6 question quiz on this. It is about 40 minutes long.
-
Finally, go to Phil only after you have completed your EHS training, canvas quiz and have the signed policy manual and ISE page. You can then take the in person quiz. Once you passed the quiz you can schedule your date and time to do your in person training.
-
The session is about 2 hours long. Phil will walk you through how to make two parts. Once you complete the class you will need to make the two parts that were demonstrated in the class. You need either Phil or a member of our team in the lab with you (doesn’t need to be in the shop, just the lab) while you are working on the part.
-
Make sure you drink water and eat something before you do your training. Two people have fainted this year during the training.
-
Turn the parts in to Phil. If you met the tolerances then you are done.
-
Leave your machine shop access card on the gate above the badges.
Note: you need to wear your machine shop badge when using the shop.
