FDM Printer | Bambu Labs P1S - VT-DISCO-LAB/Getting-Started-in-the-Discovery-Lab GitHub Wiki
Overview
Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)is a 3D printing technique where an object is created by depositing semi-continuous thermoplastic filament extruded from a hot nozzle. FDM is the most commonly known and widely available 3D printing technique. FDM is cable of producing economical and durable parts/prototypes.
We have one Bambu Labs P1s and offer most commercially available filaments
Strengths
- Economical (in comparison to other 3D printing techniques)
- Good material availability (limited to thermoplastic options)
Weaknesses
- Lower fine feature resolution than other available 3D printing techniques
- Lower geometric freedom (in comparison to other 3D printing techniques available in the Discovery Lab
- Print surface finish can be seen as rougher compared to other 3D printing techniques
- Only able to print using opaque materials
