Electronic components sorting machine
What our machine does
Electronic component sorting machine takes a mixed pile of resistors, diodes, and LEDs, and automatically figures out what each one is, measures its value, and drops it into the right box — without a person needing to test each part by hand with a multimeter.
Why we're building it
- Testing parts one by one by hand is slow and tiring
- Old or faded parts often can't be read just by looking at them
- Many good parts get thrown away just because nobody wants to test them
Existing products in market
- Daymarc 1620 Tester/Sorter
Specifications
- Sorts axial-lead parts (resistors, diodes)
- Magnetic wheel picks and feeds parts
- Stepper motor indexes them through a test station
- Speed: ~14,000 parts/hour (about 4 per second)
- Cornell Resistor Sorter (ECE 4760)
Specifications
- Test: voltage-divider measurement
- Sort: rotating bin plate aligns correct bin under drop point
- Build: fully 3D-printed frame and parts
- Speed: ~10 seconds per resistor (cycle time)
- Extra: GUI lets user view/change settings during operation
